Overview:
West Marine is in the midst of a pricing transformation — moving from legacy discounting and reactive pricing toward a strategic, analytics-driven pricing model that supports both our consumer (B2C) and professional (B2B) customer base. We're seeking a Pricing Manager who is equally fluent in data modeling and commercial decision-making — someone who can translate complex analysis into simple, actionable strategies that improve gross margin, price perception, and customer retention.
What You’ll Own
Price Strategy Development Design and maintain pricing strategies by category and channel, balancing competitiveness, margin targets, and customer expectations. Collaborate cross-functionally to align strategy with Category Roles, promotional plans, and customer segmentation.
Pricing Execution & Governance Partner with Merchants, Finance, and Digital to ensure consistent execution of pricing rules, ladders, and tiers. Develop checks to catch “insult pricing,” tier violations, and margin leaks.
Data Analysis & Modeling Own pricing models that evaluate elasticity, margin impact, and price index vs. competitors. Develop recommendations for price changes, ladder adjustments, and customer segmentation using Excel and BI tools.
Cross-Functional Influence & Decision Support This is not a back-office role. You’ll work daily with Merchandising, Store Operations, Digital, PRO, and Finance, communicating clearly and persuasively — using data and commercial common sense — to influence decisions at the working and leadership level.
Competitive Intelligence Use competitor data to benchmark West Marine against top competitors. Identify pricing gaps and opportunities for margin recapture.
Change Management & Storytelling Use data to craft a compelling point of view — not just reports. You’ll be expected to influence decisions and challenge assumptions with clarity and credibility across cross-functional teams.
Who You Are
+ Experienced in fast‑paced retail or B2B settings, with a clear understanding of pricing as a driver of both margin and customer behavior.
+ Expert in Excel modeling and pricing analysis, with the ability to turn messy data into clear business recommendations via BI dashboards and commercial intuition.
+ Deeply curious — you investigate anomalies, seek root causes, and can explain variance in margin like a forensic analyst.
+ Commercially sharp — you understand how customers shop, the role of key SKUs and category dynamics, and the tension between margin and competitiveness.
+ A collaborative challenger — you bring a POV to meetings, not just a dataset, and can persuade cross-functional teams to take action.
+ Comfortable with ambiguity — you can build structure and visibility where none exists yet.
