    **_The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology_** **has an exciting opportunity for a** **_Temporary_** **(1.0 FTE) Post-Sophomore Fellow.** This is an _entry level_ , _one-year_ , project position for students in a Medical Degree Program (MD Program).

     

    The Post-Sophomore Fellow provides specialized training in Pathology techniques for a 12 month period. This appointment includes hands-on fundamental training geared towards MD students finishing their second year of medical school, who are interested in pursuing Pathology studies, research, and clinical practices.

     

    As a Fellow you will provide compassionate, timely, and quality patient care and agree to serve the training sites and their patients; to accept the duties, responsibilities, and rotations assigned by the Program Director or his/her designee; Abide by established educational and clinical practices,

     

    policies, and procedures of the hospitals and other training sites to which they are assigned, to the extent these are not inconsistent with this policy; to conduct themselves ethically and professionally in keeping with their position as a physician in training; and to abide by UW policies and procedures, as well as the conditions and general responsibilities outlined below.

     

    As a part of this appointment, the Fellow will be expected to actively participate in the care of all types of patients who may present at the hospital or clinic to which they are assigned, including patients of designated individual physicians whom the Fellow will be expected to assist.

     

    In addition, the Fellow will be expected to take an active role in the instruction of medical students, other trainees, and/or other hospital personnel.

     

    Typical duties include but are not limited to: 70%

     

    - Fellows will follow the direction and guidance of his / her designated program director; in all aspects of training and patient care.

     

    - Fellows will actively assist in the instruction of medical students, trainees and or other hospital personnel.

     

    - Participate in care of patients at multiple hospital locations associated with the UW Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

     

    - Shadow current trainees and faculty to learn Pathology techniques and in depth knowledge of Pathology practices.

     

    Additional duties: 30%

     

    - Observe current Laboratory Medicine and Pathology trainees and faculty; use pathology techniques and practices to obtain data and facilitate research.

     

    - Maintain data records; analysis of data using Excel and custom image analysis software

     

    - Analyze data and present research material; may assist in the instruction of trainees and or other Laboratory Medicine and Pathology personnel

     

    - Attend clinical and laboratory meetings.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Bachelors of Science; 1 year of relevant experience and/or medical school training

     

    - Must be a current MD student on leave prior to completing his/her 3rd year

     

    of medical school.

     

    _Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration._
