The UW Medicine Innovation Core is a strategic hub dedicated to guiding the ethical and responsible use of AI and emerging technologies across the health system. By developing system-wide processes and uniting efforts across research, care delivery, and education, the Innovation Core team ensures that innovative tools are thoughtfully integrated to support patient care, operational effectiveness, and UW Medicine strategic priorities.
Whether enabling researchers to analyze disease, clinicians to envision the hospital of the future, or administrators to improve systems, the Innovation Core accelerates promising innovations into real-world pilots and builds pathways for successful adoption system-wide, promoting equity and benefit for all communities served by UW Medicine.
This position will report to the Senior Director of Enterprise Initiatives on an interim basis until leadership for Innovation Core has been finalized.
The Innovation Core Business Analyst (BA) will play a critical role in supporting the Innovation Core Program Operations Manager (Program Ops Manager) in the evaluation of individual innovation use cases, including use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare setting, and operational support of the Innovation Core, including supporting the innovation solution portfolio. This position works closely with information technology (IT), clinical, research, education and operational stakeholders across UW Medicine and UW to manage the progress of individual use cases through Innovation and IT governance structures, including intake, investigation, risk assessment, approval, and ongoing monitoring.
The BA may advise the Program Ops Manager, business owners, IT and operational leaders to successfully execute job duties. The BA operates at a high level of proficiency across a range of business analytics and project support functions, maximizing personal effectiveness. This role requires exercising discretion, independent judgment, and self-direction, and involves access to restricted or confidential information such as patient information, institutional strategies, financials, and other sensitive materials.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Project Business Analysis and Strategy (75%)
+ Develop awareness of how technology, operations, and business goals connect, and provide input to ensure proposals remain aligned with UW Medicine’s priorities.
+ Demonstrate a functional acumen to support how individual use cases and solutions will meet specific goals while maintaining alignment with UW Medicine and industry best practices.
+ Develop working expertise in Innovation and IT governance processes and serve as a key resource to help stakeholders navigate intake, evaluation, and approval workflows.
+ Ensure innovation business cases have a clear definition of business needs, benefits and key performance indicators (KPIs), and alignment to strategic objectives.
+ Organize and facilitate meetings to review and assess use cases.
+ Conceptualize and communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders - translate technical concepts (especially around AI and data-driven tools) into clear business requirements and insights for clinical, research, and administrative partners.
+ Leverage risk stratification framework to assign risk level and initiate and support risk assessments, partnering with various stakeholders to identify mitigations for risks.
+ Manage use case requests through the required Innovation Core and IT governance structures, in partnership with IT. and at the direction of the Program Ops Manager.
+ Manage excellent stakeholder engagement and relationships to ensure deliverables are submitted in a timely manner.
+ Ensure all documentation from stakeholders effectively defines and communicates the required information about the use case.
+ Consistently document and communicate project status updates to leadership and business stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
+ Under the direction of the Program Ops Manager, implement and maintain regular reports that illustrate health of the innovation portfolio, and other reports as required.
+ Support the Program Ops Manager by preparing materials for governance reviews, capturing decisions, and tracking action items through completion.
+ Support the creation of the cost/benefit analyses for individual use cases, when needed.
+ Support overarching budget for Innovation Core, including identifying ROIs with stakeholders and performing cost comparisons across alternative solutions.
Process Improvement Initiatives (15%)
+ Implement and maintain related Innovation Core procedures and methodologies, evolving as needed.
+ Review business processes and optimizations: Assist in mapping workflows, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending technology-enabled improvements.
+ Work under the direction of the Program Ops Manager to pilot new methodologies and tools.
+ Conduct meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings.
+ Under the direction of the Program Ops Manager, establish processes, procedures, templates, policies, reports, and tools to support Innovation Core functions.
Administration (10%)
+ Continue professional development and commit to continuous learning on AI and emerging technologies in healthcare and share insights with the Innovation Core team and stakeholders.
+ Attend team and departmental meetings as appropriate.
+ Schedule meetings to support the Innovation Core and innovation use cases as needed.
+ Adapt to and thrive in an evolving innovative environment.
+ Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
+ Bachelor’s Degree.
+ Four to five years of relevant work experience demonstrating the following:
+ Gathering, analyzing, and documenting business and technical requirements.
+ Facilitation skills in cross-functional teams, with expertise in process improvement, standards development, and industry best practices.
+ Familiarity with emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and adapt quickly.
+ Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project/Project Online, and SharePoint.
+ Strong customer service orientation.
+ Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
+ Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and analytical problem-solving abilities, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience supporting technology or innovation projects in healthcare, research, or academic environments.
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze workflows and recommend improvements, ideally leveraging data or technology.
+ Familiarity with emerging AI technologies in healthcare.
+ Ability to take initiative and be action-orientated in resolving issues.
+ Ability to drive projects forward by being an effective business partner and consistently delivering high-quality results on time.
+ Familiarity with project and change management environments.
+ Ability and motivation to learn and apply new technologies and concepts.

$89,004.00 annual
