Summary:
Meta is seeking a Research Scientist Intern to develop next generation AR displays with the use of optical and electromagnetic simulations and lead prototyping efforts to prove proof of principle concepts.Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16), or twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Research Scientist Intern, Nano-photonics Design (PhD) Responsibilities:
1. Develop next generation AR displays with the use of optical and electromagnetic simulations and lead prototyping efforts to prove proof of principle concepts.
2. Collaborate with the larger Meta Reality Labs Research team to explore novel solution space for AR devices.
3. Explore applications of active photonic integrated circuits and similar nano-photonic devices in simulatoin or with experiments to develop a near eye display.
4. Publish research results in internal organizations, conferences, patents and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development.
Minimum Qualifications:

5. Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Physics, Mathematics, Optical Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computational Imaging, Material Sciences or relevant technical field
6. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
7. 2+ years experience in at least two of the following areas of optical research: Fundamental electromagnetics, Wave optics, polarization optics, geometrical optics, Ray tracing, Optical bench top experiments
8. 2+ years experience with wave optics and geometric optics design programs
9. 2+ years experience with experimental optics and conducting laboratory work (i.e., demonstrated ability to construct proof-of-concept systems and to evaluate performance)
10. Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

11. Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
12. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading conferences such as CLEO, SID, SPIE, Optica, etc
13. Experience with nano-photonics solvers (e.g. RCWA, FDFD) and simulation software (Lumerical, meep, or similar)
14. Experience with inverse design for photonic devices
Public Compensation:
$7,313/month to $12,134/month + benefits
