Job Description
The NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. Reporting to Executive staff and the Senior Electrical Code Revision Engineer in the Division of Technical Affairs and Code Development, the Electrical Code Revision Engineer will work on electrical code-related issues, and on various technical subject matters. The individual, with minimum supervision, is responsible for:
- Researching and reviewing proposed changes to the New York City Electrical Code, reference standards, and Department rules.
- Assisting the Senior Electrical Code Revision Engineer with drafting proposed revisions to the New York City Electrical Code and participate in the code revision process for review.
- Attending meetings with industry stakeholders, city agencies and/or elected officials and their staff regarding electrical code development.
- Researching complex technical issues and responding to inquiries submitted by engineers and architects regarding the NYC Electrical Code, NYC Construction Codes, and other standards, often under tight deadlines.
- Assisting the Senior Electrical Code Revision Engineer in managing various boards/ committees/projects.
- Assisting other units with technical issues including electrical plan review unit and electrical inspection unit.
- Answering questions from the public regarding referenced design standards, electrical code, and other related laws and rules.
- Developing and implementing technical training programs for plan examiners and technical staff.
- Meeting with members of the industry to provide technical assistance of a complex nature.
- Providing technical assistance to the Office of the Commissioner.
- Preparing presentation materials such as PowerPoint slides and informational sketches drawing programs for agency staff, industry professionals, political officials, and the general public.
CIVIL SERVICE STATUS
Unless the list is exhausted during recruitment for this position, only permanent Electrical Engineers, applicants who are reachable on the Electrical Engineer open competitive list, and applicants as indicated below will be considered.
Candidates who are permanent in comparable civil service titles may be considered for title change under rule 6.1.9 of the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of New York.
REMOTE WORK
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.

Qualifications
(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; and
(2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
A masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the electrical engineering experience required in “1" above.

Salary Min: $104,720.00
Salary Max: $120,428.00
