Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The purpose of the Financial Reporting Accountant position is to assist with the preparation of various internal and external financial reports, including the annual financial statements and footnotes, as well as ongoing maintenance of the university chart of accounts and related information distribution. This position reports to the Financial Reporting Manager.
Assist with timely and accurate preparation/compilation of recurring Financial Reporting tasks as noted below.
+ ACFR Package (August)
+ Footnotes (September)
+ IPEDS (October)
+ Accounts Receivable (Quarterly)
+ SBITA Transaction Review (Quarterly)
+ Audit Tracking – UNC System (Winter, as annual audits are completed)
+ Ratio Analysis (Fall/Winter)
+ SACSCOC (June)
+ Other reporting as needed
Maintain Chart of Accounts, which includes a monthly reconciliation to the state-wide accounting system, response to inquiries, and processing changes to the chart.
Maintain communications with other departments for account codes and reporting-related information, which includes obtaining information for recurring tasks such as identification of leases, SBITAs, and other intangible assets, as well as monitoring the departmental email inbox.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (or related field) or combination of equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration and 2-4 years of accounting experience in higher education preferred.
+ Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications;
+ Detailed knowledge of MS Excel to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, and/or projections.
+ Effectively manage time and resources to ensure that individual work is completed efficiently; improve work processes to ensure work is free from errors, take responsibility for accomplishing meeting deadlines while maintaining accountability for results.
+ Clearly convey information by communicating effectively and achieve levels of professional skill/knowledge by staying abreast of current developments and trends in areas of expertise
