Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Required: (1) a doctoral degree in philosophy or a related discipline at the time of appointment; (2) evidence of significant scholarly activity appropriate for a tenured position in a philosophy department; and (3) evidence of successful teaching. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university. A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or extramural funding appropriate to rank at appointment is required. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in public outreach and higher-profile service commensurate with their expertise and interests.
Rank: Associate Professor or Professor, to be determined at time of appointment. We seek a person with significant national and/or international stature in bioethics who is prepared to engage in public outreach. Research Specialization: Bioethics, broadly construed, with research and teaching interests in areas such as (but not limited to) medical/healthcare ethics, research ethics, public health ethics, disability ethics, reproductive ethics, environmental ethics, etc. Teaching Competency: Open, but candidates should be prepared to teach courses in medical ethics and contribute to the interdisciplinary degree program in Health and Medical Humanities (https://healthhum.charlotte.edu/).
Minimum Experience / Education:
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or extramural funding appropriate to rank at appointment is required. The successful candidate should be prepared to engage in public outreach and higher-profile service commensurate with their expertise and interests.
