    This position exists to perform unit supervision, technical and administrative management, and guidance to staff in the Safer and Sustainable Products Unit. This position is responsible for ensuring that green and safer product chemistry, toxics reduction, pollution prevention, the Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MnTAP) and associated technical and financial assistance and outreach is administered effectively and efficiently, and that work is completed in a timely manner. It requires determining current and long-range needs and recommending alternative courses of action to the various programs and projects, along with supporting and assisting the Section Manager in meeting the section’s and division’s goals and objectives. This position is also expected to be an active and positive member of the agency’s Leadership Team.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1) One year of supervisory experience in environmental protection/pollution control,

    OR

    2) Two years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection related to pollution prevention, safer product chemistry, hazardous waste reduction or toxic chemical reduction. Examples for internal candidates – ( Environmental Specialist 4, Planner Principal, State Program Administrator Principal, Hydrologist 2, Engineer 2 Graduate, Research Scientist 2, or related classes).

    OR

    3) Three years of environmental experience performing work equivalent to an Environmental Specialist 3 level or senior level work directing, designing AND developing pollution prevention policy and strategic initiatives or programs that include outreach and assistance elements to ensure voluntary reductions of pollution and/or compliance with regulations.

    OR

    4) Equivalent combination of the above.

     

    The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas including F-1 STEM OPT extensions.     Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulatory frameworks related to pollution prevention and toxic chemical reductions and prohibitions.

     

    Knowledge of the structure, policies and procedures of local, state, and federal government.

     

    Accomplished project management skills to guide and direct a number of complex projects while supporting staff and problem solving laterally and vertically to determine appropriate actions.

     

    Accomplished leadership and management skills to establish trust and effectively coach, train and lead peers in the use of problem solving and project management.

     

    Communication/writing skills sufficient to clearly and tactfully communicate in a manner appropriated for the intended audience and that develops trust with internal and external stakeholders.

     

    Experience coordinating with internal agency programs on identifying, developing and executing complex environmental projects.

     

    The ability to establish an inclusive, professional and respectful work environment that celebrates diversity and is free of discrimination.

    Physical Requirements

    Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

    Additional Requirements

    A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.

     

    Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
