    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    Faculty rank, which is instructor, assistant professor, associate professor or professor, is initially assigned based on education and experience.

     

    **Teaching Role:** All faculty should fully realize that their most important function within the College is teaching.

    1. Teaching competence/excellence requires:

    a. Utilization of standards of care

    a. Integration of concepts that reflect the current health care delivery system

    a. Development of alternate teaching strategies

    a. Provision of constructive feedback to the student

    a. Functioning as a role model

    1. Faculty is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating courses; and ensuring that courses meet student learning outcomes.

    1. Faculty utilizes student, self and peer evaluations to monitor and maintain course quality.

    **Scholarly/Research Activities** : Faculty is expected to become involved in scholarly endeavors. Examples include:

    1. Participation in research activities, review of literature for publication and/or self-enhancement, clinical investigations, and grant writing

    1. Written articles submitted and/or accepted for publication in professional journals, oral/poster presentation of research, presentation at seminars, and review of potential publications

    1. Pursuit of higher educational degree(s), certifications and continuing education relevant to nursing and health care and specialty area

    1. Development and testing of creative teaching/learning activities

    **Service Activities** : Service activities are an integral part of the academic life of faculty. Service contributes to the overall mission of the College and the growth of the individual. Examples may include:

    1. College Service Activities

    a. Committee membership

    a. Special designated projects (reports, task forces, etc.)

    a. Alumni activities

    a. Recruitment activities

    2. Community Service Activities

    a. Professional volunteer for lay organizations

    a. CPR instructor

    3. Professional Service Activities

    a. Participates in professional organizations

    a. Leadership role in professional organizations

    a. Development and promotion of governmental policy that improves nursing and health care delivery systems

    4. Student Service Activities

    a. Student advisement

    a. Role model/Mentor

    a. Participate in SGA/RSNA activities

    **Student Advisement:** Faculty, as advisors, plays a pivotal role in students’ academic and career development. Responsibilities of advisement include:

    a. Helping students clarify their values and educational goals

    a. Helping students understand the nature and purposes of a liberal arts education and professional nursing education

    a. Providing accurate information about option requirements, policies and procedures

    a. Helping students plan an education program consistent with their interests, abilities, and career expectations

    a. Assisting students in monitoring and evaluating their educational progress

    a. Integrating the many resources of the institution(s) to meet students’ special educational needs and aspirations

    a. Reviewing HESI exam scores with students and give guidance for success on NCLEX

    **Full-time Faculty duties and responsibilities normally include** :

    + Formal course contact teaching hours as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.

    + Faculty may need to handle clinical and simulation teaching, with clinical supervision typically following an 8:1 student-to-instructor ratio, which may involve 9–12-hour days and flexible hours without a strict 40-hour policy.

    + Preparation and planning for instructing assigned classes in accordance with course objectives.

    + Maintaining quality and currency of course materials and teaching methodologies.

    + Preparing and correcting examinations and other student work assignments and assessing student learning outcomes.

    + Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress.

    + Active participation in curriculum development, review, and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student learning.

    + Proficiency in utilizing the institutional Learning Management System (LMS) and instructional technologies for course delivery and record keeping.

    + Attending faculty meetings and institutional ceremonies or meetings and adhering to all accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

    + Participating in community activities.

    What qualifications you will need:

    + Masters in Nursing required

    + Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.

    + Previous experience in education preferred.

     

    Faculty at Research College of Nursing support the College’s mission of teaching excellence and are committed to the success of our students. This involves a primary focus on teaching effectiveness; and requires participation in college and professional service as well as engaging in scholarly pursuits that support and enhance teaching and practice. During the contract period of employment, faculty members are expected to be available to assist and work with students, attend required college events and respond to college needs. Faculty are expected to utilize pedagogical strategies to effectively support and meet the diverse learning needs of our students. Faculty rank is initially assigned based on education and experience. All individuals with faculty rank have the responsibility to uphold the Vision, Mission and Values of the College and comply with policies and procedures in the Faculty Handbook. This 12-month position includes responsibilities during the fall, spring, and summer terms.
