A Typical Day
The Assistant Vice President Application Development will assess the needs and challenges of a client and formulate the technical roadmap and technology solution that will support their business strategies and goals. As the AVP Application Development , you will develop and manage relationships with internal and external technology partners to deliver projects on time, on budget, and with quality. This is a technical leader responsible for managing a team of developers, defining the architecture and technical roadmap, ensuring code quality, and driving the adoption of advanced development practices, including AI tools and cloud services, to support key business functions, preferably within Financial Services.
The AVP Application Development, will :
+ Orchestrate the management of technology scope and risks
+ Manage and direct Leads, Systems Analysts, Application Developers, and Quality Assurance resources
+ Initiate new, and improve existing, systems processes
+ Manage and deliver multiple streams of projects end-to-end
+ Develop artifacts following the SDLC in place, including technical specifications, design specifications, unit test cases, and unit test plan and code, using tools such as .NET, COM, SQL Server and related Microsoft toolset.
+ Participate/assist in development of deployment plans for the systems developed
+ Perform other related duties as required and assigned
+ Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization’s desired culture and values
Leadership, Strategy, and Team Management
+ Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Senior and Mid-Level Developers, fostering a high-performance culture focused on innovation, quality, and accountability.
+ Technical Roadmap: Define and communicate the long-term technical strategy for the C#/.NET and SQL Server application portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and architecture standards.
+ Agile Oversight: Manage development initiatives across the full software development lifecycle using Agile Methodologies. Oversee project scoping, estimation, resource allocation, and timely delivery.
+ Talent Management: Participate in recruitment, performance reviews, career development, and succession planning for the development team.
+ Domain Expertise (Preferred): Leverage prior experience in Financial Services, ideally with domain knowledge in Mortgage Servicing, to guide the team in building compliant and effective business solutions.
Technical and Quality Mandates
+ AI and Tool Strategy: Drive the strategic adoption and standardization of AI tools, specifically Cursor and GitHub Copilot, across the team to maximize development velocity, improve code generation, and accelerate refactoring efforts.
+ C# and SQL Expertise: Provide architectural guidance and deep technical oversight for complex application design, specializing in robust C# and .NET (Core/Framework) services and high-performance SQL Server development.
+ Enforce rigorous quality gates, including mandated unit testing for all deliverables.
+ Establish and monitor team adherence to required code coverage minimums, ensuring continuous integration of quality analysis into the development process.
Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles.
AWS Cloud Architecture: Oversee the design and implementation of applications leveraging key AWS Cloud Services, ensuring best practices for security, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
Database Skills: Ensure all database development in SQL Server is highly optimized, secure, and aligned with enterprise data standards. Optionally, Leverage or acquire knowledge of PostgreSQL as needed
What You’ll Bring
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
+ 10+ years experience working with IT leadership to create technical strategies and with senior IT groups in an advisory role
+ Expertise in multiple technologies (such as: .Net, SQL, Postgress, AWS etc.) across software engineering, security, data interchange, data management, etc.
+ Must have experience in developing Enterprise level applications using an SOA-based Architecture (Web Service, Windows Service etc.)
+ Should be highly skilled in .NET framework and languages (such as: C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET and using Visual Studio). Deep expertise in C#, .NET, and SQL Server development.
+ Must have worked in a multi-developer/multi-site environment with multi-site management experience
+ Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and successfully deploy software to production environments.
+ Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation: Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:
+ Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role
+ Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role
+ Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role
Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
Salary
$110,000 - $170,000
