Position Summary/Description:
As a member of the Organization and Professional Development team within the Office of Human Resources, this position leads the strategy, design and development of our manager and leadership development offerings. This role is focused on helping managers across campus build their leadership capabilities and confidence; hire, develop and reward their team using recommended practices; deliver results by empowering their team; and foster an environment of belonging, psychological safety and ongoing feedback. This role requires a deep understanding of leadership concepts, the manager audience, their unique needs and challenges, and the required competencies for effective people management.
This position is responsible for managing the following offerings to meet program objectives and create an engaging and effective learning experience.
Carolina BEST : Foundations of Supervision: Designed for new supervisors, this program emphasizes practical and foundational competencies of all supervisors, allowing new supervisors the opportunity to reflect on the issues, functions and challenges involved in leadership roles.
University Leadership Education and Development ( ULEAD ): The ULEAD program is a selective, cohort-based leadership development program for high-performing, high-potential mid-level managers. Participants learn from renowned faculty, industry experts and fellow managers. Designed to address the evolving challenges in higher education, ULEAD empowers managers to lead with purpose, confidence, and impact.
Lead Well: Our new blended learning pilot program for managers, Lead Well provides an opportunity to enhance leadership skills through an in-depth examination of topics, such as building trust and engagement, promoting employee development, creating a sense of belonging and psychological safety, and managing change, among others.
Responsibilities include program and curriculum design, development, facilitation, coordination with partners, scheduling, assessment administration, measurement, learner tracking and promotion. Additionally, this position gathers and analyzes participant feedback and data insights to identify opportunities for improvement and initiates changes with a user-centered perspective. Success in this role involves close collaboration and communication with team members who provide support on design, development, facilitation, and administration.
Additional responsibilities include:
Leading a collaborative effort with our team and key partners to define and implement our strategy for manager and leadership development.
Strengthening the alignment between our manager and leadership programs and the University s performance management framework.
Creating a new 360 assessment pilot to support executive leadership.
Administering, interpreting and providing coaching on competency and personality assessments such as DiSC and CliftonStrengths.
Developing and facilitating additional training in areas such as communication, leadership, manager/supervisor development, and other professional development areas as well as providing consulting services to departments, teams, committees, and employees as needed.
Mentoring less experienced team members as needed.
Education and Experience:
Experience managing and developing others in a formal or informal reporting relationship
Experience with DiSC and/or CliftonStrengths assessments
DiSC and/or CliftonStrengths certification
Coaching experience and/or related certification
Essential Skills:
Deep understanding of leadership concepts, the manager audience, their unique needs and challenges, and the required competencies for effective people management
Experience designing, developing, and delivering manager and/or leadership development programs
Experience developing and/or providing coaching on 360 assessments
Experience with competency, behavior, or personality assessments
Experience working in a training, organizational development or professional development department or an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate required skills and knowledge
Experience teaching and/or facilitating adult learning programs, both in person and virtually, and using effective instructional techniques to engage participants and enhance learning outcomes
Proficiency in managing complex programs and projects
Strong instructional design skills
Strong facilitation skills
Strong capability to collaborate with others on projects and initiatives
