    Job Title: Accounting Manager

     

    Job Type: Full-Time (35 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM)

    Overview

    A well-established organization in Hartford is seeking a skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to lead its finance operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role oversees core accounting functions, manages a team of five, and ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Lead daily accounting operations, including:

    + Payroll

    + Accounts payable and receivable

    + General ledger entries

    + Month-end and year-end close processes

    + Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures

    + Ensure the effectiveness of financial reporting systems and tools

    + Review and approve cost allocations, depreciation schedules, and accrual entries

    + Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems, ensuring regulatory compliance

    + Serve as the primary contact for payroll vendors, including wage garnishment coordination

    + Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries with third-party provider data

    + Stay current on payroll-related laws and regulations

    + Provide financial insights and reporting to senior leadership

    + Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff to foster a collaborative, high-performing team

    + Continuously improve accounting systems and workflows for accuracy and efficiency

    Required Skills & Qualifications

    + Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles

    + Proven experience managing accounting teams

    + Hands-on experience with payroll processing and compliance

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field

    + Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills

    + Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with budgeting, auditing, and cost allocation

    + Familiarity with accounting software platforms

    + Knowledge of federal and state funding regulations

    + Experience with payroll system transitions is a plus

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $29.67 - $35.16/hr.
