The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Critical Foundations at Rowan University is seeking to hire a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track Associate Professor/Full Professor with an appointment to begin September 1, 2026.
The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Critical Foundations is specifically interested in candidates who will develop a research program in areas of STEM Education, Assessment or ECED leadership. However, outstanding candidates with research programs outside of these areas may also be considered.
A Ph.D. or equivalent in Early Childhood Education or related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record and/or potential to establish and sustain a strong research program. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the various service endeavors in the Department, College, and University. Opportunities for research collaboration exist within the Department, as well as with other departments.
The College of Education, as the oldest college at Rowan University, has a long-held commitment to excellence in teaching, community engagement, and innovation in scholarship. The College of Education is fully accredited under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education standards by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and initial certification programs are approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Critical Foundations offers a variety of opportunities for caring and dedicated undergraduate and graduate students to pursue initial certification as early childhood or elementary education teachers. In addition, the department offers graduate programs that provide advanced study in curriculum and teaching, including the M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership and the M.A. in Equity, Access, and Success in Education programs and the nationally recognized Certificate of Early Childhood Coaching and Technical Assistance. The department is committed to fostering student growth as instructional leaders who have a developmental perspective, cooperative disposition, and reflective orientation and are committed to the principles of access, success, and equity for all learners.
The candidate will teach early childhood education methods courses in the Bachelor of Arts in Education, Early Childhood and other undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will participate in service initiatives, particularly program redevelopment and initiatives catered to a growing and diverse region. This is a full-time, tenure-track or tenured position at the associate/full professor level. Candidates at the associate and full level must meet Rowan University's requirements for research, teaching, and service. For both levels, a strong record of scholarship and leadership are expected.
Required Qualifications:
+ Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in early childhood education from an accredited institution of higher education at the time of application;
+ Understanding of child development, the field of early childhood education, including standards, professional organizations, issues, and trends;
+ Meets state licensure requirements for early childhood education (P-3) and a minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience in diverse early childhood (Birth to 8) settings;
+ A record of competence in higher education teaching, research, and service, including a strong scholarly orientation, evidence of early/ongoing productivity and securing external funding to support scholarship;
+ Commitment to inclusive instruction, as well as collaboration, collegiality, and respect for all people
+ Understanding of various education systems such as public and private early childhood education centers, as well as public 0-5 and P-3 programs
+ Successful communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills;
+ Commitment to working with multiple stakeholders, Birth-12 schools, community partners, and underrepresented groups of children/families; and
+ A teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of the College of Education that includes promoting change in education through a lens of social justice.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
+ A strong content area research interest such as STEM, Leadership in Early Childhood Education and others
+ Strong understanding and experience with rigorous and high quality early childhood curriculum and approaches, such as Reggio Emilia, Project Approach, and Bank Street
+ Experience with higher education teaching in multiple formats, including in-person, evening, online, and hybrid, and supervision of teacher candidates;
+ Experience with program coordination or leadership or a willingness to lead at the program level;
+ Advocacy related to access, success, and equity issues in education;
+ Familiarity with program recognition and the accreditation standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP); and
+ Experience with multiple forms of assessment and the evaluation of practitioners, particularly Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching

SALARY
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is:
+ Assistant Professor: AFT: Range 22-25
+ Associate Professor: AFT: Range 26-29
+ Full Professor: AFT: Range 30-33
