Iowa Workforce Development is seeking applicants for the position of Title I Career Planner at our IowaWORKSDenison, IA office.

     

    The Title I Career Planner will discuss, give presentations and promote services to social service entities, local schools, justice involved agencies and employers. They will work one-on-one will individuals to develop training and employment goals, monitor progress and follow up.

     

    The Career Planner will assist customers in overcoming barriers to success by connecting them to community and partner services, including the services within the IowaWORKS center. The position will help identify employment and training needs through career assessments and labor market information.

     

    Services may include resume development, interview skills, career planning, career assessments, job searching and referrals to other agencies and employment. The Career Planner will set up work experiences, on the job training, or educational training to assist participant successfully obtain employment with a livable wage.

     

    Regular communication and follow-up are conducted in-person, virtually, or over the phone then accurately documented through the IowaWORKS database system.

     

    The Title I Career Planner will provide direct services to business for recruitment of employees. Network with businesses to determine hiring practices and employer needs.

     

    To be a successful Title I Career Planner: Ability to develop trusting relationships and coach individuals with broad and diverse backgrounds and barriers to employment. Strong knowledge/understanding of case management and counseling theories/techniques. Creating individualized plans which identify clear, achievable, realistic action steps and life goals. Possess both creative and critical thinking skills.

     

    Should possess some experience in connecting community and partner services to customers. Ability to adhere to state & federal documentation, record-keeping and case note policies. Computer data system, Microsoft Office, and social media knowledge.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

     

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;

    OR

    an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of full-time public contact work obtaining, analyzing and evaluating data such as job/claims interviewing, testing, referral and/or placement, sales representative, credit investigation, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of supportive clerical and outreach functions for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;

    OR

    employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to twelve months of full-time work as a Workforce Associate.
