This position is open to current permanent classified DOTD employees only
This position serves as the DOTD Statewide Traffic Signal Inspector and will be required to report to the Baton Rouge office bi-weekly.

About This Position:
The overall function of this position is to provide direct supervision to the DOTD statewide traffic signal inspectors. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of all required tasks.
This position serves as the expert in the field of traffic signal construction and is responsible for advising private consultants, DOTD District Traffic Operations Engineers, DOTD Project Engineers, and local government officials throughout the state. This position serves as the DOTD Statewide Traffic Signal Inspector and, as such, is responsible for the inspection of traffic signal installation performed by contractors and subsequent approval or rejection of work performed and materials used. Frequent meetings, typically weekly, with private consultants, DOTD Engineers, and government officials are required of this position to discuss construction standards for traffic signal installations. A working knowledge of traffic signal networks, including microprocessor traffic signal controllers, fiber optics, and traffic signal network communications is required to perform these duties. The incumbent must be variable on-call at all times to respond to failed traffic signals throughout the state. This position requires IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Certification in addition to a minimum of six (6) years of construction experience installing traffic signals and two (2) years of field advanced journeyman experiencing inspecting traffic signal installations directives.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience or training in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
Four years of experience or training in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software); OR
Possession of a CompTIA A+ Certification plus one of the following:
1. Three years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR
2. Three years of experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electronics or computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Supervisory Duties : Assign and oversee the work product of staff engaged in statewide traffic signal inspections. Ensuring employees have a clear understanding of the desired results. Follows up on project status and work results. Analyzes and continually improves unit’s work processes to ensure projects/activities are carried out to achieve sections goals and objectives. Recommends program adjustments as necessary. Schedules and conduct regular meetings with staff to provide feedback, advice, and guidance as needed. Interviews, selects, trains, and counsels staff. Provides training to lower level staff members in order to ensure an understanding of all current policies, procedures, and DOTD construction standards. Approves leave requests and prepares and conducts performance evaluations.
+ Traffic Signal Inspection Duties : Reviews plans prepared by private consultants for compliance with DOTD construction standards. Attends pre-construction meetings and advises contractors of any special requirements or problems with project. Provides on-site inspections and guidance throughout the installation of traffic signals to ensure private contractors are performing with to DOTD standards. Inspects salvaged materials from construction project for suitability in refurbishing and redeployment in the field. Provides specialized technical advance in the field of traffic signal construction to private consultants, DOTD District Traffic Operations Engineers, DOTD Project Engineers, and local government officials throughout the state. Provides advice and guidance to field personnel in the installation traffic signals. Evaluation new concepts and procedures and makes recommendations for their use.
+ May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
