    BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

    The P NA CORPORATE AUDIT Department of the P CORPORATE AUDIT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)

    JOB FUNCTION:

    Performs financial, operational, technology, and compliance audits for Hawaiian Electric Company and its subsidiaries to provide management and the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Directors with an independent evaluation regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, reliability of financial reporting, safeguarding of assets, effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    ANNUAL RISK ASSESSMENT, AUDIT PLANS AND AUDIT PROCESS

    + Contributes to the the annual risk assessment process and developing the annual audit plan.

    + Performs audits.

    + Planning Process: Conducts the planning process, participates in planning meetings, develops clear and accurate planning documents with controls, risks, breadth of procedures planned, etc., conducts walkthroughs, participates in entrance conference/kickoff meetings

    + Fieldwork: Conducts testing, analyzes data, processes and controls, identifies any nonconformance, noncompliance, or deviations, communicates results/issues/potential findings.

    + Finding Forms: Prepares finding forms for any nonconformance, noncompliance, or deviation using department’s writing standards.

    + Workpapers: Develops clear and accurate workpapers with identified controls and risks, breadth of procedures performed, and test results.

    + Performs other audit steps as necessary.

    + Assists with performing the reperformance of the SOX testing for the external auditors’ reliance.

    OTHER

    + Performs advisory services and other consulting work as assigned.

    + Performs other duties as assigned by Manager, Corporate Audit and the Director, Corporate Audit.

    + Supports and implements department process improvements to progress and streamline audit activities and decrease turn-around time.

    + Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

    + Thorough knowledge of general accounting and auditing principles and concepts (e.g., GAAP, GAAS and COSO) normally acquired through college level business courses. Bachelors degree in Business Administration in Accounting or its equivalent or four years of auditing and/or accounting experience in lieu of a degree.

    + Working knowledge of the financial reporting and corporate governance requirements and responsibilities specified under PCAOB Standard #5 and those governed by the SEC, NYSE and Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

    + Proficient use of personal computers and related software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and VISIO.

    Skills Requirements

    + Excellent oral, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with all levels of the organization, while dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues.

    + Ability to effectively prepare accurate and concise workpapers of audit test plans and supporting documentation.

    + Strong writing skills to effectively produce and review/edit audit workpapers and report drafts.

    + Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in the work environment, while maintaining composure and a positive attitude.

    + Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a sensitive work environment and act as an appropriate role model for other team members.

    + Ability to extract and integrate important information from large volumes of data, analyze reasonableness of data and apply technical concepts and methodologies.

    + Ability to conceptualize new ideas quickly, understand and discuss relevant issues and offer value-added solutions.

    + Good time management, planning, directing and organizational skills to complete multiple tasks efficiently, timely, and accurately in order to meet department goals or deadlines.

    + Strong commitment to teamwork and two-way communication to ensure the achievement of common goals and objectives.

    + Demonstrated responsibility for self-development and willingness to learn new skills by actively participating in Company-sponsored training, self-study, professional organizations or other educational means.

    + Ability to travel to neighbor island subsidiaries, as required.

    + Ability to telework.

    Experience Requirements

    + Several years (2-7) auditing and/or accounting experience. Public accounting in auditing or prior internal audit experience highly desired.

    + Demonstrated experience in performing operational, financial or compliance audits desired.

    + Experience in utility industry desired.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Internal Auditor - Oahu [Req ID 10102] position is $64,700.00 to $80,900.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
