    COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

    Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

     

    This work unit exists to direct and implement a variety of outdoor recreation programs and activities, while managing and protecting the natural resources and man-made facilities at Roxborough State Park as well as managing and protecting approximately 15 miles of hiking-only trails bordering the Pike National Forest. The park provides a safe and quality recreational experience to over 180,000 visitors per year along with a wide range of interpretive opportunities. This is balanced with the need to protect and enhance the facilities and natural resources of the area, including designations of a Colorado Natural Area, a National Natural Landmark, a Colorado Archaeological District, and a Leave No Trace Gold Standard Park by providing visitor services, maintenance functions, natural resource protection and education, administration functions, law enforcement, inter-agency cooperation, and program development. The work unit administers state park programs within the district, and provides recreation and natural resource management expertise to federal, state, county, local and private enterprises.

    Description of Job

    This position exists to manage Roxborough State Park’s Interpretive Services programs, Visitor Center operations, Volunteer Naturalist Program, and park administrative responsibilities. Specifically this position supervises 1-2 temporary employees, 127+ active volunteers, and a variety of park office / Visitor Center programs including pass & registration sales, facility rentals, information services. To also act as an administrative assistant to the Park Manager and staff with an emphasis on organization, accounting, and revenue reporting. This position also exists to manage and recruit volunteers, interpreters, and naturalists to encourage stewardship of the park’s natural resources

    VISITOR CENTER OPERATIONS

    Establishes procedures for the operation of the visitor center and entrance station. Develops and updates the visitor center operations manual. Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises up to 2 temporary staff as well as volunteers. Acts as liaison between Roxborough and the retail program for merchandise sales at the visitor center. Works collaboratively with the retail program to update inventory of clothing, books, stickers, and other merchandise. Acts as merchandise and inventory control manager for the park. Act as the site expert for IPAWS use and training, as well as pass sales and inventory.

    VOLUNTEER PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

    Recruit, train, reward, schedule, supervise, and evaluate volunteers providing interpretive programs and visitor services. Produce monthly volunteer newsletter, organize monthly volunteer enrichments and trainings. Develop interpretive trainings and evaluation materials.

    ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION & INTERPRETIVE SERVICES MANAGEMENT

    Design and develop interpretive programs and materials, coordinate school and group field trips and programs. Organize interpretive special events, provide support for teacher/leader trainings, produce quarterly Rambles interpretive services program schedule and prepare program marketing and media releases. Prepare budget requests and recommendations for interpretive services needs. Work closely with volunteers to schedule and staff interpretive programs.

    CLERICAL / SPECIAL PROJECT SUPPORT

    Types and proofreads certain park correspondence. Develops and maintains central filing systems for the park. Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, Google Suites, CORE, OneCard, PARS, and Kronos computer programs and systems. Selects software, sets up formats and inputs data to generate various reports as needed. Kronos timekeeper and PARS manager for the work unit. Verifies and accounts for TWP employee timesheets. Processes and verifies all forms related to hiring of TWP. Performs office and technical support for park FTE. Composes written and electronic correspondence in response to public information requests. Manages office and janitorial supplies and budget.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE

    This position works directly with park visitors to answer questions about the park and division. Sells passes, hunting & fishing licenses, boat & OHV permits and registrations, and reserves overlooks. Answers phone and email queries for park information and assistance. Manages park’s automated phone systems and websites. Responsible for booking, scheduling, billing and coordinating reservations for our two overlook sites. Works with Aspira/IPAWS staff to resolve issues. Develops procedures and designs forms to ensure efficient scheduling and coordination with other park staff. Supervises, recruits and trains temporary staff & volunteers in completion of visitor center customer service tasks.
