    The Ruth R. Faden Professorship of Education in Bioethics in the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics (http://bioethics.jhu.edu/) was recently established thanks to the generosity of the Institute's Advisory Board Chair Alexander Levi and his wife Vicki Gold Levi.

     

    The inaugural holder of the Faden Professorship will be a proven leader in bioethics education, with a track record of excellence and innovation in bioethics education, particularly at the graduate or professional school level, including clinical, residency and fellowship training.

     

    The Faden Professor will join the highly-regarded educational programs and initiatives of the Berman Institute, and will be expected to (1) teach in the appropriate educational and training program area(s) of the Institute, (2) lead and carry out a program of research and scholarship including research on bioethics education, and (3) take on leadership responsibilities for all or parts of the Institute's existing educational programs and initiatives as well as have the opportunity to add new initiatives.

     

    The Institute's current educational programs and initiatives span the university and include: bioethics teaching in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences undergraduate curriculum, primarily in the William H. Miller III Department of Philosophy, where an undergraduate minor in bioethics is offered; the Institute's Master of Bioethics (MBE) program and PhD concentration in health policy and ethics, both offered in partnership with the Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH); teaching in the BSPH; a Postdoctoral Fellowship program; and bioethics teaching and training in both the School of Medicine (SOM) and School of Nursing (SON) professional school curricula, as well as in graduate training programs.

     

    The Professorship will support a portion of the successful candidate's salary, with the expectation that additional funding will be secured through grants, teaching, service and/or clinical efforts, as appropriate.

     

    Successful candidates will have a strong track record in bioethics education across a range of disciplines and/or learner groups, as well as having a track record of bioethics scholarship; applicants with expertise in research on bioethics education are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates will be considered across a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. Rank of associate professor or higher; and can be tenure/tenure track or non-tenure track depending on the individual.

     

    Salary: Competitive salary range based on rank and appointment

Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
