    UPMC is hiring a full-time MFM/OB Nurse Specialist position to support their team at UPMC Magee Women's Hospital! The Maternal-Fetal Medicine OB Nurse Specialist coordinates and provides assessment, care, and instruction to patients of the Maternal Fetal Medicine practice. This position will be responsible for the coordination of care to the high risk pregnancy population throughout Magee Women's Hospital. This position will support 23 physicians while working with many other outside clinical areas to ensure optimal care.

     

    This position will work 4 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required! Previous OB experience is required for this position.

    Responsibilities:

    + Administer medications in compliance with institute policy when necessary. Complete assessments of patients using the current prenatal form. Work closely with all personnel regarding course of outpatient treatment. Provide continual, consistent care to patients on medication that needs to be closely monitored, i.e. Heparin, coumadin, insulin. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of Maternal-Fetal Medicine principles, physiology, and pathophysiology of high-risk pregnancies. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the research process. Conduct accurate and safe telephone triage.

    + Review and assess all laboratory values for all patients. Round on hospitalized patients and send appropriate correspondence. Oversee the daily operations of the MFM office. Recruit patients for research when appropriate. Evaluate and assess each patient with each outpatient visit. Review charts of the scheduled patients for accuracy and completeness.

    + Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    + Bachelor's degree required. 3 years of current clinical experience in an OB setting required; OR 7 years of current clinical experience in an OB setting.

     

    Strong knowledge regarding principles, physiology and pathophysiology of high-risk pregnancy required. Basic computer skills required along with demonstrated leadership and problem-solving ability. High level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal effectively with patients, families, and members of the health care team, supervise assigned staff and provide empathy to patients in need.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

     

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Registered Nurse (RN)

    + Act 34

    *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
