The Program
New York University's Innovation Postdoc in Residence Program is designed to cultivate a new generation of postdoctoral associates who bridge the gap between academic research and industry innovation. This two-year program, one year based at NYU New York and the second at NYU Tulsa (https://www.nyu.edu/tulsa.html) , equips participants with business and entrepreneurial skills and the interdisciplinary experience necessary to translate cutting-edge research into real-world applications.
Postdoc Associates will engage in innovation projects and professional development experiences that foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support cutting-edge innovations, and connect their work to the broader community.
This unique program is open to all current PhD students at Tandon School of Engineering who will defend their dissertations by September 1, 2026 (or completed their PhD from May 2023 onwards and have not held a postdoc role). All interested applicants, including international applicants, who are passionate about utilizing their research to address industry challenges and contributing to the robust academic and entrepreneurial culture that NYU fosters, are encouraged to apply.
Program Goals
+ Equip Postdoctoral Associates with the experience necessary to bridge research and industry needs through tangible entrepreneurial skills
+ Provide industry experience through a combination of academic and employer engagement opportunities
+ Foster collaborations across disciplines to translate research into innovative and commercially impactful solutions
+ Support the transition from research activities to industry applications
+ Seek to support pathways to long-term employer-sponsored work and residency opportunities
Program Structure
+ Two-year Immersion:
+ Year 1 at NYU New York focuses on guided but self-driven entrepreneurship training, professional development, and innovation projects.
+ Year 2 transitions Postdoctoral Associates to NYU Tulsa (https://www.nyu.edu/tulsa.html) , where they will be placed with an industry host and expected to contribute to business operations by applying research to industry challenges.
+ Mentorship: Postdoctoral Associates will make connections and meet with mentors to guide their professional growth, foster interdisciplinary partnerships, and create pathways to industry knowledge and success.
+ Industry Integration: Associates will participate in hands-on projects that challenge them to apply their research to practice, translating their scholarly activities into marketable innovations that address societal and business needs.
+ George Kaiser Family Foundation (https://www.gkff.org/) (GKFF) is a partner in this program and includes the InTulsa Visa Network (https://talent.intulsa.com/intulsa-visa-network) and Tulsa Remote (https://www.tulsaremote.com/) for relocation and community integration support.
Awards
NYU will award up to four in-residence opportunities in 2026. Appointments are for a period of two years, commencing on September 1, 2026, and concluding on August 31, 2028. Postdoctoral Associates in this program will participate in in-person and on-site activities. They participate in school-wide and departmental activities and have mentorship opportunities to prepare them for a career in the industry. Teaching at NYU or another institution and outside employment during the fellowship are prohibited.
Compensation and Allowances
Postdocs will be appointed as a “Postdoctoral Associate” and will receive a $62,500 nine-month salary, a research allowance ($2,000), and reimbursement for one-time relocation fees (up to $3,000 in year 1 and $1,500 in year 2) if necessary. Such compensation will be subject to appropriate taxation. The University also offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical and dental coverage.
