Summary:

We are the Instagram Recommendation Core ML organization, dedicated to delivering personalized recommendation that maximize both user utility and creator value. We own and optimize the AI brain for the world's most popular app, Instagram, through SoTA AI and machine learning research with a goal to deliver significant top-line impact for Instagram's topline metrics. We focus on advancing AI and ML technologies for all aspects of Recommendation, including ranking, model architecture, feature representation, optimization, and long term value. By consistently integrating cutting-edge AI/ML advancements, we help Meta’s products achieve long-term goals and optimize experience of billions of users. With our growing impact, we’re seeking motivated AI Research Scientists to join our team and drive SOTA research.

Required Skills:

Research Scientist, Instagram AI Responsibilities:

1. Research and develop large-scale model architectures, leveraging SoTA model scaling techniques

2. Research and develop next generation sequence learning and graph learning techniques to drive advancements in recommendation

3. Research and develop Reinforcement Learning techniques, to optimize users' long-term value

4. Prioritize SoTA techniques of training scalability, signal scaling, knowledge distillation, transfer learning, and AutoML to optimize model performance, efficiency, and reliability

5. Research and develop innovative solutions for features and data related challenges, utilizing knowledge of semi/self-supervised learning, generative techniques, sampling, debiasing, domain adaptation, continual learning, data augmentation, cold-start, content understanding, and large language models

6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and optimize E2E ML systems, leveraging expertise in hardware-software co-design, including quantization, compression, and resource-efficient AI, to drive performance improvements and efficiency gains

Minimum Qualifications:

7. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

8. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree should be completed prior to joining Meta

9. 2+ years of experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher or applied researcher position, or related position

10. Research experience in deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, computer vision, recommendations, ranking, search, or related areas

11. Programming experience in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch

12. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

13. Experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher or applied researcher position, or related positions

14. First author publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, ACL)

15. Experience taking ideas from research to production

17. Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and different perspectives to determine a path forward

Public Compensation:

$147,000/year to $208,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
