Job Summary
The Sponsorship and Advertising Sales Associate supports the University of Utah’s Auxiliary Business Development ( ABD ) team by identifying, cultivating, and securing sponsorship and advertising partnerships that align with University priorities. This role is responsible for developing new business with external partners and expanding relationships with existing sponsors across campus entities. The Associate creates customized proposals that integrate advertising, experiential, and partnership assets to deliver measurable value for clients while supporting University goals.
The position’s primary focus is on new business development and partnership growth, complemented by client retention, internal collaboration, and event support. Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships in a fast-paced environment.
This role is ideal for a motivated sales professional who thrives on developing creative marketing solutions and can connect the unique reach of the University community to local, regional and national brand objectives.
Responsibilities
Prospect Development: Identify, research, and engage potential sponsors and advertisers that align with University audiences and values.
Sales & Partnership Strategy: Develop customized proposals integrating campus assets (e.g., digital, event, signage, and activation opportunities) that meet client objectives and maximize University value.
Client Relationship Management: Maintain regular communication with partners to ensure satisfaction, deliver contracted benefits, and identify renewal and upsell opportunities.
Collaboration: Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Housing, Union, Campus Recreation, etc.) to activate sponsorships and identify new opportunities.
Market Insight: Conduct market and peer research to inform pricing, packaging, and positioning strategies; stay current with trends in sponsorship and collegiate marketing.
Administrative Oversight: Maintain accurate sales records, client databases, and asset inventories; ensure compliance with University and contract policies.
Event Support: Represent ABD at campus and community events; assist with partner activations and special projects as needed.
Ambassadorship: Serve as a professional representative of the University of Utah, demonstrating integrity, responsiveness, and enthusiasm in all partner interactions.

Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) with 2-4 years sales experience applicable to assigned University department. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Depending upon department of assignment, preference may be given for a background in hospitality, marketing, communications, public relations, or athletics.
Preferences
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.
1–3 years of professional sales experience in sponsorship, media, advertising, or partnership development, preferably with corporate or higher education organizations.
Demonstrated success in consultative or relationship-based selling, including prospecting, proposal development, and contract negotiation.
Familiarity with marketing and media valuation (e.g., signage, digital, experiential activations) and comfort discussing ROI or brand exposure metrics.
Strong collaboration skills with experience working across multiple departments or business units to coordinate deliverables or campaigns.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office suite.
A proactive, self-motivated work style and interest in representing the University in community and corporate settings.
