Description
Facility Engineering Services, a Burns & McDonnell company, is looking for an Operations Department Manager to apply their experience and industry knowledge by leading a multidisciplinary team of professionals in the delivery of project design development and field execution at the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) operated by Honeywell. You will be responsible for leading a department consisting of Project Managers, Construction Managers, and a team of diverse project support roles in delivery of a variety of unique projects, from capital equipment installations to building infrastructure modifications.
The Operations Department Manager is responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight for all administrative and project execution activities under the FES contract in support of the KCNSC mission. The Ops Manager drives execution of policies and processes to ensure project design packages and construction efforts are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with scope, schedule, and budget expectations. Teaming with the FES Engineering Department, this role strengthens client relationships, drives consistency of project delivery across all KCNSC projects, and promotes the Burns & McDonnell culture, values, and mission.
Minimal travel is involved as the construction work is local to the Kansas City-based facility. This opportunity is full-time, Monday through Friday, working day-shift at the Kansas City National Security Campus facility in Kansas City, MO. Occasional evening and weekend work is necessary to support our client’s mission.
+ Provide leadership and oversight to a team of Sections Managers; Sections consist of Project Management, Construction Management, LEAD (Layout, Equipment, and Database), and Division Support (Estimating, Project Controls, Project Specialists).
+ Develop and maintain project execution planning expectations, systems, progress tracking, reporting, and project-level performance monitoring.
+ Evaluate execution processes and drive efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives, teaming with client personnel and Ops staff for input and implementation.
+ Establish and communicate project execution expectations, best practices, and process improvements.
+ Serve as the overall quality manager within the Operations department and implement strategies, initiatives, and non-conformance corrective actions to organizational and project personnel.
+ Work with Operations Section Managers to mentor, train, and support the career development of personnel within the department.
+ Ensure that department staff have needed tools and resources to perform their responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
+ Provide leadership, guidance, and expert level technical guidance and support to the department.
+ Review work assignments and performance to ensure the efficient and effective utilization of staff.
+ Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to department staff.
+ Manage project execution efficiencies and drive continuous improvement opportunities within the department.
+ Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
+ Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence with the department.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related degree from accredited program and 7 years related professional experience in design and/or project management.
+ US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Security Clearance is required.
+ Institutional knowledge and understanding of engineering design and construction execution, including design package development, field management, and support functions such as estimating, scheduling, reporting, and project support.
+ Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.
+ Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to motivate staff and clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
+ Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
+ Ability to remain flexible and prioritize in an environment of constant change and client priority shifts.\
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
+ Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, and collaboration.
+ Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferred.
