    Job Summary

    Position may require 24/7 support of the Tennessee River system operations.

     

    River Management is responsible for scheduling the day‐to‐day, integrated operations of the Tennessee River system and balancing the competing demands on the system for the overall value to the public.

     

    Performs the most difficult tasks of civil engineering work related to water resources and hydraulic modeling. The incumbent is also responsible for providing leadership for a work team in this area. The work more specifically includes :

     

    + Using and configuring software to model river flows, elevations, and hydrothermal operations for TVA’s 49 dams.

    + Improving and building operational performance of facilities and systems by assessing conditions and developing solutions for hydrologic, hydraulic, hydrodynamic and water quality models.

    + Developing and refining the hydraulic and physical relationships of reservoirs or other civil systems and could include the development of mathematical models of the systems.

    + Developing, applying and verifying computational models of fluid dynamics and related processes for the solution of engineering problems.

    + Manages and analyzes large data sets.

    + Utilizes weather forecast products for the development of new forecasting tools.

    + Coordinates the work of and gives advice and assistance to engineering associates, engineering aides, and engineers of lower grades involving daily scheduling activities.

    + Serves as staff member on teams utilizing established procedures and processes to solve problems, such as analyzing work processes, innovative thinking to develop new systems and procedures and providing leadership for teamwork.

    + Pursues opportunities for professional development and networking by actively participating in professional organizations, such as ASCE, AWRA, TSPE, etc.

     

    Supervision Received

     

    Supervision is neither close nor continuous, nor is the work reviewed for technical accuracy, but is reviewed for conformance to guidelines and attainment of objectives. Direction is given primarily during discussions on reservoir operation objectives and the merits of alternative plans of operations. Independent actions taken outside normal work hours are reviewed after the fact.

    Programs: Python, MatLab, XML configuration, Linux, FEWs, RiverWare, HEC RAS

     

    Minimum Qualifications(Consistent with Classification Standard)

    Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

    A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or comparable related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

     

    Master’s degree, EIT certificate or PE License is highly desirable.

     

    Several years of progressively more difficult work at the senior level.
