Position Summary
Under general direction, performs general billing and account follow-up activities for the Physician Organization Business Office Clerical Unit. This role also performs various mailroom and clerical duties.
Job Responsibilities
+ Sorts Health Insurance Claim (HIC 1500) forms by Payor, reviewing insurance company addresses and invoice balances in the process. Removes all HIC forms that have an incorrect or incomplete address and/or credit balances.
+ Opens and prints incoming correspondence; assists in re-directing researched correspondence as needed to various departments within the organization. Distributes received mail, returned statements and HICs pertaining via interoffice mail.
+ Scans returned mail items and logs them into a master spreadsheet. Researches all returned statements for the correct address using POBO resources. Logs updated information within patient record system or makes notes on the account as needed.
+ Obtains copies of patient checks, insurance payments and EOBs as requested from source documents or from scanned copies. Obtains charge tickets from scanned CDs as needed.
+ Prepares spreadsheets indicating charge batch header information to be used as an index of batches to be sent to scanning vendor(s).
+ Scans documents received into the patient accounts witin the practice management system and prepares W-9s as needed for insurance carriers.
+ Provides coverage for front desk and the mail room when needed.
+ Assists with device installation and/or relocation as requested.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
+ High School Diploma
Experience
Experience working in a clerical unit in health care industry and/or familiarity with computer billing system (EPIC) is a plus.
Excellent data entry skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Basic computer skills and previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
+ Excellent communication skills, including the proven ability to write clear and concise correspondence.
+ Demonstrated ability to organize multiple priorities and follow up on projects through completion.
+ Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills in person, via email and on the telephone.
+ Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.
+ Demonstrated ability to take ownership, balance multiple responsibilities and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to meaningfully contribute value as member of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting coworkers when necessary to ensure a positive experience and smooth operations; including reliability and punctuality
+ Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
+ Ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation and demeanor.

Ability to lift and/or move packages up to 30 lbs in weight.
