    Job Title: Software Test Engineer

     

    Canvas is seeking a Software Test Engineer! This position provides advisory services to the DoD.

    Duties:

    Duties will include, but are not limited to:

    + Evaluate Command and Control Application Software (C2AS) requirements for a USAF Major Acquisition program to ensure testability and compliance.

    + Assess software performance and functionality across C2AS components, user interfaces, and system responsiveness.

    + Oversee C2AS test planning and execution in physical and simulated environments, including unit and integration testing.

    + Verify software configurations against government standards, best practices, and cybersecurity regulations.

    + Advise development teams on C2AS requirements, configurations, and technical limitations.

    + Maintain expertise in software testing methodologies including automated frameworks and defect tracking systems.

    + Evaluate new testing technologies to enhance C2AS testing capabilities and efficiency.

    + Document test results in technical reports and presentations and communicate findings to program stakeholder.

    + Participate in Human System Integration usability testing efforts during developmental test and evaluation.

    + Support Integrated Product Team meetings, working groups, and test plan reviews.

    + Provide technical support for engineering efforts where existing guidelines are unavailable or inapplicable.

    + Develop test documentation including test reports, readiness recommendations, verification and validation recommendations, risk and deficiency reports, etc.

    Requirements:

    + Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, & Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering. *Experience may be substituted for education with customer approval.

    + SE3 needs 3+ years of software unit and integration testing experience, including writing test plans and documenting test results.

    + Experience with the software development lifecycle and participation with integrated product teams and/or cross-functional development teams.

    + Hands-on experience with testing tools and methodologies such as automated testing frameworks, defect tracking systems, and test management software.

    + Experience working in regulated or standards-driven environments such as government, defense, aerospace, or other industries requiring compliance with formal testing standards and documentation requirements.

    + Experience with system integration testing including testing software interfaces, data flow validation, and multi-system interoperability verification.

    + Experience with technical documentation and reporting, including writing technical reports, test summaries, and presenting findings to stakeholders.

    + SE4 needs 10+ years required.

    + Technical Skills:

    + Test Automation: Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, Jenkins, etc.

    + Defect Tracking: Jira, Bugzilla, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, etc.

    + Test Management: Test Rail, Zephyr, qTest, HP ALM, etc.

    + Version Control: Git, SVN, team Foundation Server, etc.

    + Database testing: SQL, Oracle, etc.

    + API Testing: REST/SOAP services, Postman, SoapUI, etc.

    + Analytical Skills:

    + Root Cause Analysis: Debugging, log analysis, systematic problem solving

    + Requirements Analysis: Translating functional requirements into testable scenarios

    + Data Analysis: Test metrics, trend analysis, performance evaluation

    + Soft Skills:

    + Communication: Technical writing, stakeholder presentations, cross-team collaboration

    + Self-Starting: Ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritizes tasks effectively, takes initiative, proactively communicates potential risks and issues

    + Adaptability: Works well under changing requirements, new technologies, schedule changes, etc.

    + Domain Knowledge:

    + DoD/Military testing standards

    + Security Protocols: Handling classified systems, cybersecurity awareness

    + Human factors: UI/UX evaluation, usability testing principles

    Security Clearance:

    + Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

    Desired Experience:

    + Master's degree

    + In Addition to Minimum Experience:

    + 5+ years experience managing end-to-end test campaigns.

    + Experience delegating tasks, coordinating schedules, technical oversight of junior engineers and contractors.

    + Advanced test architecture and framework design experience including developing enterprise-level test strategies and implementing scalable automated testing solutions.

    + Program-level stakeholder engagement including interfacing with senior government officials, contractor executives, and participating in high-level technical reviews.

    + Experience with advanced system modeling and simulation for test environment design, including virtual testing environments and hardware-in-the-loop testing configurations.

    + In Addition to Minimum Skills:

    + Strategic Test Planning: Enterprise-wide test strategy development, risk assessment frameworks, and long term test roadmap creation.

    + Advanced Statistical Analysis: Test data modeling, reliability analysis, statistical process control, and predictive analytics for system performance.

    + Systems Architecture: Understanding complex system interdependencies, network topologies, and distributed system testing approaches.

    + Research and Development: Evaluating emerging technologies, conducting feasibility studies, and developing innovative testing methodologies.

    + Occasional travel to test sites and contractor facilities up to 5% to support test activities, system evaluations, working group meetings, etc.

    + Able to work in various environments including in populated office settings, laboratory settings, and secure facilities.

    + Possibly lift and handle equipment up to 50 lbs during test setup, hardware installation, and equipment transport.

    + Ability to work extended or irregular hours during testing, system deployments, and milestone events.

    + Work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time reviewing technical documentation, architecture, test plans, requirements documents, etc.

    Other Essential Job Functions:

    + Must be willing to travel up to 15%.
