Construction Materials Tester
Job Description
As a Materials Tester, you will be responsible for performing both field and laboratory testing, construction observation, and inspection of construction materials including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. This role blends hands-on scientific testing with real-world construction oversight, making it ideal for candidates with backgrounds in materials science, geology, chemistry, or engineering technology.
Your day-to-day will include:
+ Conducting standardized tests in both field and lab settings to evaluate material properties and ensure compliance with project specifications.
+ Observing and inspecting construction materials during active projects to verify quality and adherence to standards.
+ Communicating test results clearly and concisely to engineers, project managers, and clients.
+ Tabulating and calculating laboratory data and preparing detailed field reports that document findings and recommendations.
+ Maintaining and cleaning testing equipment, vehicles, and workspaces to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
+ Occasionally assisting with drill rig operations during geotechnical investigations, contributing to subsurface data collection.
Preferred & Essential Skills + Qualifications:
+ Proficiency in ACI procedures, concrete and soil testing, and general construction materials testing.
+ High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or coursework in science or engineering is a plus.
+ Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oxford, MS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $21.00/hr.
