Position Summary
Lead and mentor a team of engineers specializing in relay protection and control design for transmission and distribution substations. Drive technical excellence and ensure high-quality deliverables across all phases of substation projects.
Key Responsibilities
+ Provide leadership, guidance, and technical mentorship to engineering staff focused on protection and control (P&C) systems.
+ Design and implement robust protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
+ Select appropriate protection devices and ensure accurate equipment sizing and specification compliance.
+ Develop detailed scopes of work, cost estimates, and conceptual designs for substation projects.
+ Create and review comprehensive drawing packages, including:
+ Wiring diagrams
+ Schematics
+ Protection panel layouts
+ One-line and three-line diagrams
+ Conduct power system studies, including:
+ Short circuit analysis
+ Relay coordination
+ CT performance evaluation
+ Relay loadability assessments
+ Utilize industry-standard engineering software such as ASPEN, ETAP, and AcSELerator for protection settings configuration and validation.
+ Perform load calculations for panels, battery systems, voltage drop, and other substation components.
+ Provide technical field support during construction and pre-inspection phases of turnkey substation projects.
+ Ensure adherence to client specifications and regulatory standards, including NERC and FERC compliance.
+ Collaborate with clients, vendors, and cross-functional teams to maintain technical accuracy and project alignment.
+ Offer expert guidance on relay setting schemes tailored to diverse system topologies.
+ Lead internal technical training sessions and lunch-and-learn events.
+ Conduct peer reviews and quality assurance for protection settings and fault analysis studies.
+ Represent the organization at industry conferences and technical forums, including IEEE events.

Technical Skills
+ Hands-on experience configuring SEL microprocessor relays; familiarity with electromechanical relays and other major vendors.
+ Strong understanding of SCADA systems, automation, and communication protocols (e.g., DNP, SEL).
+ Proficient in using testing equipment such as Doble, OMICRON, and Megger.
+ Skilled in interpreting electrical documentation including single-line, three-line, and functional diagrams.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in engineering supervision and project management.
+ Familiarity with relay vendors and electromechanical relay technologies.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Willingness and ability to travel to client sites and attend technical conferences.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Duluth, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $170000.00/hr.
