Job Description:
The Nursing Internship is a skill-based, paid, position providing opportunities to gain valuable clinical skills while enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Spend Summer 2026 at Essentia Health as a Student Nurse Intern in Duluth or Superior!
Education Qualifications:
As a **Student Nurse Intern,** you will work under direct supervision, providing essential support in both routine and technical aspects of nursing care for patients of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Assist with patient care activities while adhering to best practices and protocols.
+ Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
+ Help maintain a safe and healing environment for patients and families.
Units Available for Student Nurse Interns:
+ Intensive Care Unit (ICU) - Cardiac and Neuro Trauma Units
+ Float Team
+ Emergency Department (ED)
+ Medical/Surgical
+ Medical Unit
+ Oncology
+ Post Op General Surgery (unit patients go to after PACU)
+ Neuro Trauma Med/Surg
+ Ortho Trauma and Urology Med/Surg
+ Cardiac
+ Birthing Center
+ NICU
+ Pediatrics
+ Maternal Child Health Float Pool
+ Adult Behavioral Health
+ Child/Adolescent Behavioral Health
+ Inpatient Rehab
*Unit availability may vary. Superior Location has Med/Surg and ED.
Internship Requirements:
+ Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program
+ **Bachelor’s Degree Students** : must have completed Junior year of nursing program prior to Summer 2026
+ **Associate Degree Students:** must have completed two semesters of nursing clinical prior to Summer 2026
+ Enrolled in a nursing co-operative internship course for the summer 2026 semester
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within one month of hire
+ Must be able to commit to 32-40 hours/week (up to 400 hours for the entire summer). Shifts: day, night, and weekend; 8 and 12 hour shifts
+ Students with full/part-time summer class loads will have adjusted hour requirements and must be able to commit to 32 hours every two weeks
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 1 month of hire
+ BCLS certifications through Red Cross must be renewed through the American Heart Association if continuing as a senior nurse intern
+ This certification must not expire during the internship.
