The Operations Technician I position is responsible for the receipt, inventory, storage, withdrawal, and shipment of biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients. These materials are stored at temperatures ranging from ambient to -20C with potentially hazardous properties. This position utilizes database applications and standard precautionary procedures to work independently, communicate effectively, and use good judgment in decision-making. Internal or external client interaction occurs under the guidance of experienced professional or technical staff. This position may also participate in the assembly of kits and label printing.
Responsibilities
+ Receive and store samples efficiently.
+ Use an inventory management system for data entry, sample tracking, and management of samples.
+ Coordinate and prioritize workload to ensure quality-minded, accurate operations.
+ Pull samples and confirm accuracy for outgoing shipments.
+ Prepare outbound shipments for timely dispatch.
+ Work closely with managers to support customer inquiries, discrepancies, inventory maintenance, and database updates.
+ Maintain files for validation of data and prepare reports of information and sample data.
+ Participate in process improvement and safety-focused activities.
+ Handle and inventory specimens at various temperatures, adhering to safety and compliance guidelines.
Essential Skills
+ Proven track record to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel.
+ Expertise in handling, processing, and storing specimens using a computerized system.
+ Ability to lift 45 lbs regularly and stand for the entirety of the shift.
+ Excellent communication skills and effective problem-solving abilities.
+ Strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Minimum of a HS Diploma or equivalent experience.
+ Previous repository/laboratory experience required.
+ Experience working with Cold Chain, Dry Ice, Liquid Nitrogen (LN2), -80 Freezers preferred.
+ Work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving, sample management preferred.
+ Strong critical thinking and strategic prioritization skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
+ Outstanding organizational abilities to successfully implement tasks.
+ Knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory, and quality assurance/control.
+ IATA Dangerous Goods Training for Class 6.2 Shipping.
+ Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
Work Environment
The role is set in a sterile warehouse-type environment that includes a repository with freezers and liquid nitrogen tanks. You will be required to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, and hazardous agents. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols are mandatory. The ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and push up to 70 lbs is essential. You will handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-196°C) for up to 6 hours per day and use a computer for the same duration. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with overtime if business needs arise.

This is a Contract position based out of Frederick, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
