    Job Title: Greenhouse Technician

    Job Description

    Engage in daily greenhouse plant care, including tasks such as seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, harvesting, and seed handling for various crops like corn, soybean, and wheat. Participate in experiments, collect data, and maintain accurate records. Perform routine sanitation tasks to ensure a clean and regulated greenhouse environment.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide daily care for greenhouse plants, including seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, harvesting, and handling seeds for corn, soybean, wheat, and other crops.

    + Punch or cut and store small samples of plant tissue for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper sample identity and storage conditions.

    + Assist with experiments, collect data, and maintain detailed records.

    + Perform routine sanitation tasks such as discarding regulated material, destroying waste, cleaning pots and containers, and sanitizing rooms.

    Essential Skills

    + Knowledge of greenhouse operations, agriculture, and botany.

    + Experience with pollinating, plant care, horticulture, agronomy, and plant maintenance.

    + Familiarity with life sciences, including biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology.

    + Experience in sampling and maintaining plant genetic data.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + High School Diploma or GED required.

    + Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Genetics, or Agronomy.

    + Must have prior plant care/greenhouse experience.

    Work Environment

    Work in a controlled greenhouse environment, typically 80 degrees and humid in the winter and warmer in the summer. Must be able to stand and sit for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and tolerate repetitive work in a warm, humid setting with pollen present year-round. The position involves an open-ended contract with a work shift from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

    This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, IA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
