    About Indiana Women's Prison :

    As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Indiana Women’s Prison promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Indiana Women’s Prison is maximum security Correctional facility for adult females. The Indiana Women’s Prison is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Indiana Women’s Prison houses special populations of female incarcerated individuals in the state, including pregnant, sick, mentally ill, youthful, elderly, and high-profile incarcerated individuals. The facility includes the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit, which encourages the preservation of family by allowing incarcerated mothers to stay with their children and offering education and resources to support successful re-entry. The facility also offers resources and treatment geared toward mental health, substance use and domestic abuse, along with multiple educational opportunities. The goal is that through treatment and rehabilitation geared toward everyone, the facility will help prepare incarcerated women to re-enter their community with more skills and confidence than when they arrived.

    Role Overview:

    As a Clerical Assistant, you will continually maintain active inmate files, prepare inmate release files, and inmate parole files for consolidation and archiving. This position scans all inmate files to IRIS and maintains the online records for the inmates housed at the Women's Prison.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $27,638.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are as follows:

    + Supports the daily operations of an organization by performing general office tasks

    + Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person according to their needs.

    + Answers telephones and gives information to callers, take messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.

    + Opens, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence, and prepares outgoing mail.

    + Operates office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers.

    + Accurately maintains and organizes office files.

    + Delivers messages and run errands.

    + Maintains inventory, orders, and distributes supplies.

    + Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have a

    • High School Diploma or equivalent

    Upon entering the role, individuals must have or obtain the following requirements:

    + Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures.

    + Basic computer skills

    + Active listening skills

    + Effective written and verbal communication skills

    + Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

    + Attention to detail and proofreading skills

    + Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

    + Ability to work with sensitive documents and information, and be privy to sensitive agency information without divulging information to internal or external parties

    + Ability to work independently

    + Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties.

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
