    Summary The incumbent monitors and receives routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determines the nature and location of the emergency; uses their judgment to prioritize events and commit police resources appropriately; and determines what notifications are necessary based upon event type. This position resides within the Police Service, and is physically located at the Denver VA Medical Center. Responsibilities The incumbent monitors and receives routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determines the nature and location of the emergency; uses their judgment to prioritize events and commit police resources appropriately. Operates a variety of communications equipment, telephones and computer systems to support both routine and emergency operations. Some examples are, but not limited to: ECHCS Physical Access Control Systems (PACS). This includes alarm and access monitoring, tracing access patterns, programming, assigning, or removing user permissions, updating databases, remotely opening and securing doors during routine and emergency operations and generating a variety of reports as needed. Video surveillance systems (equipped with and without analytical software capabilities) for ECHCS sites. Assesses on-scene behavior and determines when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate; Alarm systems monitoring fire, access, intrusion, duress/panic, medical emergencies, psych emergencies, medical assist teams, etc. Public address systems; emergency digital paging system. Receives and compiles information from various sources related to police and emergency incidents, taking appropriate actions regarding intrusion, duress, and hold-up alarms. Directs response and/or modifies responsible personnel depending on the type of incident or request. Operates a variety of communications and security equipment, such as computers, multi-frequency radios, multi-line telephone system, and other related peripherals. Performs system checks on a variety of equipment used in the dispatch center. Troubleshoots systems when problems arise and resolves issues whenever possible. Conducts equipment inventories; completes records and other logs. Maintains accurate radio/alarm activity records/logs to include dates, times, and results of communications and activities and types completed reports. Performs and documents emergency call-backs when necessary. Tracks critical information and report's findings to the supervisor. Implements policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material; performs work in support of established security programs; or performs protective work in guarding Federal buildings, personnel, and materials. Performs or monitors standardized aspects of an established security program operations - such as establishing and maintaining records, operating an established vehicle registration and visitor management program, parking registration and/or photo identification equipment. Gathers information and completes reports when local incidents rise to the level requiring notification to the VA Integrated Operations Center (IOC) in Washington D.C. Processes Courtesy Violations Notices (CVN) and US District Court Violation Notices (USDCVN) in accordance with established policies. Establishes proper tracking of parking/traffic violators and reports habitual offenders to the supervisor for additional action. Provides high quality customer service and provides information to employees and the public on a variety of subjects related to the mission of Police Service. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/10/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Monitors and receives routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services; Determines the nature and location of the emergency; Determines what notifications are necessary based upon event type; Makes such notifications and coordinates follow-up communications; Receives and process emergency calls; Maintains contact with law enforcement units on assignment, Maintains status and location of police and coordinates communication between agencies as needed; Monitors direct emergency alarms, answers non emergency calls for assistance; Enters, updates and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems and sensitive databases; Monitors and directs response to security and life safety communications, radio dispatching, telephone, video monitoring systems and other emergency communication circuits. Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature.
