Manager of Triage
Position OverviewThe Manager of Triage is responsible for the day-to-day management of patient care and ensuring services are managed appropriately via phone conferences. This position will assist the Director of Triage in training and scheduling of Triage support staff and in the overall management of the department. The Manager of Triage is experienced in nursing with emphasis on palliative care.
Essential Functions and SkillsResponsibilities
+ Responsible for supervision of all PRN triage staff.
+ Responsible for participation in the manager on call rotation and ensures after-hours processes run effectively and efficiently.
+ Managers the schedule of all PRN staff and ensures there are enough staff available to meet triage demand.
+ Responsible for performance management yearly performance reviews of all PRN staff.
+ Assists the Director of Triage in the management of departmental goals.
+ Assists the Director of Triage in staff development and education.
+ Maintains and updates the Triage Tool which after hour staff utilize to keep up to date on branch updates.
+ Works with the Managers of Clinical Services to develop and ensure effective and positive working relationships between the branch and triage.
+ Responsible for maintaining compliance with all HIPAA regulations and requirements. Treats all patient information as confidential and utilizes protected health information on a minimum necessary basis.
+ Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with basic principles and guidelines of professional nursing.
+ Receives calls related to patient care and instructs patient/caregiver on appropriate interventions based on nursing knowledge.
+ Evaluates available options for interventions and uses critical thinking when selecting which intervention is best for the patient and/or caregiver.
+ Determines the need for nursing visit based on EMR and telephone call. Dispatches a visit RN or LPN as appropriate.
+ Completes, submits, and maintains accurate and relevant clinical notes regarding patient’s condition and care given. Records pain/symptom management and changes/outcomes as appropriate.
+ Communicates with the physician regarding patient needs and reports changes in patient condition; obtains/receives physician orders as required.
+ Facilitates the patient’s efforts toward self-sufficiency and optional comfort care.
+ Counsels and works in cooperation with the family/caregiver and hospice interdisciplinary group to meet the emotional needs of the patient and family/caregiver.
+ Ensures arrangements for equipment and other necessary items and services are available.
+ Additional Duties
+ Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development. Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in-service classes.
+ Actively participates in quality assessment and performance improvement teams and activities as assigned.
+ Ability to effectively plan and organize, while managing competing priorities, required.
+ Proficiency in budget management required.
+ Ability to effectively comprehend and utilize an electronic health record required.
+ Understands hospice philosophy, secure with issues of death/dying. Comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements/Qualifications
+ Must have current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of practice.
+ Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
+ 2+ years of experience supervising staff in healthcare, hospice, home health, or long-term care.
+ Ability to pass DHS background study.

+ Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
+ Pushing/Pulling and Lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds.
The salary range for this role is $93,000-$97,000 annually. An employee’s actual annual salary will be based on but not limited to: geographic location, relevant education, applicable certifications, depth of experience, and special skillsets. The total compensation package for this position may also include the opportunity to participate in employee benefits including our medical/dental/vision/pet insurance, disability and life insurance, paid time off, and 401(k) retirement plans, subject to applicable plan terms, and/or eligibility for other compensation.
