    *The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Medicine, Department of Trauma Research Advanced Resuscitation in Combat Casualty Care Laboratory (ARC3 Lab), is seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant*to support the ongoing research efforts of our multidisciplinary laboratory. This position will assist both clinical and preclinical projects focused on trauma physiology and translational medicine. The Research Assistant will perform laboratory procedures, manage data, and ensure compliance with UMB, IRB, and IACUC regulations while supporting the daily operations of the lab. Accomplishes responsibilities by applying specialized and theoretical knowledge, principles, and concepts of a professional discipline normally acquired through advanced education or specialized training. Resolves issues and significant matters on behalf of management by utilizing independent judgment, discretion, creativity, and analytical thinking. Contributes to development and evaluation of goals and objectives. Creates solutions to ensure legal and policy compliance. May supervise, mentor, or coordinate work of others (positions that supervise are responsible for service delivery, quality assurance, and employee performance). May independently manage or administer programs, processes, projects, or resources. Applies entry level knowledge, concepts, principles, and skills. Decision making occurs within defined parameters. Supervisor defines assignments, expectations, and deadlines. Supervisor may review work for quality. Contingent Category II staff receive a generous leave package that includes over 2 weeks of vacation each year, paid holidays, sick time, and time for community service; subsidized comprehensive health insurance and supplemental retirement options; professional learning and development programs; limited tuition remission for employees enrolled at UMB; life insurance and long-term disability; and flexible work schedules and teleworking options (if applicable per job). *PRIMARY DUTIES* · Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: general housekeeping, wipe tests, ELISA assays, preparing solutions, media, stains, and buffers; cultures and specimens; autoradiograms and photomicrographs, executing biochemical procedures such as: electrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, and DNA extractions, etc. · May perform advanced laboratory research activities such as: animal surgery, microscopy techniques, imaging techniques, recombinant DNA techniques, protein purification, and hybridizations, etc. May participate in the design of research studies. · Compile and may analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications. · Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication. · Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies. · Perform other duties as assigned. *Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities* * Assist with ongoing research tasks including but not limited to: ELISA assays, thromboelastograms (TEGs), CBC machines, sample preparation and dilution, and point-of-care clinical testing. * Assist with data collection and analysis using LabChart, Prism, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft Office applications. * Conduct literature reviews, summarize findings, and prepare supporting documentation for all experiments. * Ensure equipment, supplies, and study materials are maintained, organized, and appropriately documented in compliance with UMB, IRB, and IACUC standards. * Maintain accurate and complete records of study procedures, data files, spreadsheets, and lab notebooks. * Perform other duties as assigned to support the research mission of the laboratory. ** *Minimum Qualifications* * *Education:*Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory. * *Experience:*N/A * *Supervisory Experience:*N/A * *Certification/Licensure:*N/A * *Other:*May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. *Preferred Qualifications* * Bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology and Physiology, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, or a related field. * At least one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience with exposure to basic wet-lab science principles and practices preferred. Exposure to animal research is preferred. * Demonstrated ability to manage and organize data, follow established protocols, and perform basic laboratory techniques. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, and Adobe Creative Cloud. * Excellent interpersonal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and high reliability. * Prior experience in swine or hematology research, including data collection and sample preparation. * Experience drafting and adapting experimental protocols for conclusive results. * Familiarity with regulatory standards including HIPAA, IACUC, IRB, and general research compliance practices. * Clinical experience outside of a research setting (e.g., urgent care, critical care, or primary care). * Demonstrated leadership and teamwork in dynamic or flexible work environments. *KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES* Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
