    Instructor is responsible for performing all aspects of instruction for the Welding & Joining Technology program. The responsibilities of this position include day, evening, and online programs for both traditional and dual-enrolled students.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Diploma in Welding from an accredited institution.

    • Three (3) years out of the past seven (7) years of experience in Welding.

    • Successful candidates must be able to pass an AWS plate welding test as a condition of

     

    employment.

     

    • Successful candidates for the Carroll and/or LaGrange campus positions must be able to pass an

     

    AWS pipe welding test in addition to the standard plate welding test.

     

    • Valid driver’s license.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Associate degree in Welding and Joining Technology from an accredited institution.

    • AWS or other welding certifications.

    • 10+ years of experience in welding.

    • Pipe welding experience.

    • Directly related teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

    • Knowledge and experience in the use of technology: internet, email, Microsoft Office products, Knowledge Management System (KMS), Blackboard, Banner, Degree Works, and Task Stream.

    INSTRUCTION

    • Provides instruction in theory and practical applications of Welding and Joining Technology in

     

    accordance with academic state standards.

     

    • Instructs face-to-face, hybrid, or on-campus, as needed, in accordance with college faculty loads.

    • Instructs courses in a classroom and lab environment that closely simulates the environment of the

     

    industry.

     

    • Utilizes current technology in the classroom and lab.

    • Evaluates student progress in attaining goals and objectives.

    • Grades all coursework in a timely manner

    • Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss student instructional programs

     

    and other issues.

     

    • Maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate for the teaching

     

    discipline.

     

    • Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.

    • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in Welding and Joining Technology.

    • Attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.

    SAFETY AND TECHNOLOGY

    • Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the Welding & Joining Technology

     

    program.

     

    • Supports faculty to ensure all equipment is in working order.

    • Suggests new/updated technology to remain current with trends and developments within the

     

    field.

     

    • Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using

     

    tools.

     

    • Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.

    CURRICULUM/STUDENT AND PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

    • Develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives.

    • Prepares lesson plans for instruction.

    • Works collaboratively with faculty within the discipline to establish, measure, and evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success, and submits to the Welding Program Director

    • Submits reports and data with respect to accrediting bodies.

    • Reviews and edits master course shells in the online learning platform as necessary.

    SUPPORTS PROGRAM DIRECTOR, DIVISION DEANS, AND ASSOCIATE DEANS

    • Requests and maintains welding supplies and equipment.

    • Prepare budget requests and place orders for needed supplies and equipment.

    • Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.

    • Serves on committees and project assignments as needed.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a professional classroom and lab environment. This role routinely uses standard

     

    office, classroom, and lab equipment and technology.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

     

    successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move classroom/lab equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.

    POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time instructional position. The workload is Monday through Friday, with day/evening hours (40 hours). Weekends are based on need.

    TEACHING LOAD

    All courses are face-to-face unless otherwise indicated. Instructor pay is based on a 40-hour work week with 29 hours of course contact per week. A minimum of 35 hours per week must be on campus.

    TRAVEL

    Traveling to other campuses is a possibility for teaching assignments, meetings, training, and

     

    professional development.
