    MD Anderson's Nurse Navigation Program provides patients with personalized guidance, helping them manage the complexities of cancer care while ensuring seamless coordination across their treatment journey. The Nurse Navigation Program is designed to support patients from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Nurse navigators act as dedicated guides and advocates, helping patients understand medical terminology, prepare for appointments, and connect with the right specialists. They also work to remove barriers to care so patients can focus on healing rather than paperwork or scheduling challenges.

     

    The primary purpose of this role is to provide expertise in nursing professional development for the nurse navigation program. As a clinical nursing expert in various modalities, you will assess the competency of nurse navigators and provide education, development, and quality improvement initiatives for the program. In collaboration with the program director and navigation leadership, you will design tools and methodologies to identify needs and gaps in the knowledge, skills, and competencies of the nursing staff. You will also provide educational opportunities that foster professional growth and strengthen problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Incorporating oncology nursing standards and institutional policies and procedures into practice, you will evaluate outcome-driven interventions and collaborate with staff and the interdisciplinary team to improve patient care. Additionally, you will participate in organizational initiatives aimed at improving clinical practice and patient outcomes.

     

    *The ideal candidate will have experience conducting training classes in both one-on-one and group settings, developing initiatives and training curriculum, and have at least one year of experience as a Nurse Navigator.*

    *This is a hybrid position that will require some flexibility, being available onsite for training sessions and other necessary tasks. *

    *Job Specific Competencies:*

    *Collaboration and Development:*

    * Work with the program director to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based nursing professional development for the nurse navigation program.

    * Facilitate training and education, document and retain training records, and serve as a consultant/mentor to nurse navigators.

    *Needs Assessment and Improvement: *

    * Conduct learning needs assessments, identify gaps, and present proposals to improve skills.

    * Develop and incorporate both non-clinical and clinical programs that enhance processes.

    *Goal Setting: *

    * Collaborate with the program director and navigation leadership to set goals for educational programs and needs.

    Implementation of

    *Learning Opportunities: *

    * Plan, develop, and implement evidence-based learning opportunities in compliance with national standards for the nurse navigation program.

    *EDUCATION*

     

    Required: Master's Degree Nursing or Bachelor's Degree Nursing AND Master's Degree Healthcare or related field.

     

    *WORK EXPERIENCE*

     

    Required: Five years of Clinical nursing experience in oncology field to include Ambulatory nursing experience and preceptor or instructor experience.

     

    Preferred: One year Navigation experience.

     

    *LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS*

     

    Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).

    Required: BLS - Basic Life Support
