    Mechanic

     

    + Position Overview

     

    The Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and servicing of company equipment and vehicles as assigned by the Fleet Manager. This includes troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing scheduled maintenance, and ensuring all equipment is safe, reliable, and operational.

     

    + Essential Functions of the Job

    + Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, suspensions, cooling systems, steering components, and electrical systems for both on-road and off-road equipment.

    + Troubleshoot and maintain diesel- and gasoline-powered machinery, including dump trucks, excavators, loaders, skid steers, graders, rollers, and similar equipment.

    + Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.

    + Perform component rebuilds, lubrication, tire and wheel services, welding, and fabrication as needed to restore full equipment functionality.

    + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DOT regulations, safety standards, and manufacturer maintenance schedules for fleet and heavy equipment operations.

    + Follow all company safety protocols and procedures when performing maintenance and repairs, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout procedures, and safe handling of hazardous materials.

    + Identify, report, and correct unsafe conditions or equipment hazards to ensure a safe work environment for all employees.

    + Repair and service vehicles and equipment as scheduled by the Fleet Manager.

    + Complete assigned daily work accurately, efficiently, and on time.

    + Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.

    + Use company tools and equipment responsibly and provide personal tools necessary for basic mechanical work.

    + Accurately record labor hours, materials used, and repairs performed on work orders.

    + Communicate effectively with drivers, equipment operators, staff, and vendors to ensure maintenance needs are met.

    + Assist the Fleet Manager with equipment evaluations, maintenance planning, and repair estimates.

    + Conduct test drives and operational checks to verify repair completion and functionality.

    + Perform preventive maintenance, including tune-ups, oil changes, tire services, and general mechanical repairs.

    + Ensure all work orders, logs, and reports are completed and submitted promptly at the end of each shift or repair.

    + Notify the Fleet Manager upon completion of repairs to coordinate scheduling and deployment of equipment.

    + Provide technical assistance and mentorship to other employees when required.

    + Perform other duties as assigned by management to support fleet and equipment operations.

    + Skills

     

    Equipment Monitoring — Monitor equipment indicators to make sure is working properly.

     

    Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Ability to read and/or interpret mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic blueprints or schematics.

     

    Social Perceptiveness — Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.

     

    Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively.

     

    Situational Awareness — Ability to recognize potential risks and dangers on the job site and react quickly and effectively according to safety standards.

     

    Mathematics- Basic Mathematics skills.

     

    + Knowledge

     

    Equipment and Mechanics- Proficient in diagnosing, repairing, and servicing mechanical and electrical systems on trucks and heavy equipment.

     

    Maintenance- Experienced in performing preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles, trucks, and heavy construction equipment, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

     

    + Abilities

     

    Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

     

    Arm-Hand Steadiness — The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.

     

    Multi limb Coordination — The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.

     

    Static Strength — The ability to utilize maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

     

    Oral Comprehension — The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

     

    Near Vision — The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

     

    Far Vision — The ability to see details at a distance.

     

    Stamina — The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath.

     

    Trunk Strength — The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.

     

    Driving—Current valid Driver’s License with clear MVR record. Able to pass DOT test.

     

    Leg — The ability to kneel down for extensive period of time.

     

    Internet - job related internet research

     

    Physical Effort

    Physical effort for this position includes, but not limited to:

    + Uses repetitive motions.

    + Uses close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

    + Ability to move or lift heavy materials of 70 pounds or more.

    + Exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.

    + Grasping and feeling with hands to perceive attributes of objects such as size and shape

    + Standing for a long period of time (more than eight hours a day)

    + Maintaining balance when walking around work sites

    + May be exposed to loud noise.

    Travel Required

    + Occasional travel requiring overnight stay - Travel may be required based on operational needs.

     

    Working Conditions

     

    This position is subject to outside environmental conditions to include extreme cold and hot temperatures according to the season. The worker is subject to noise level in which shouting is necessary to communicate. The worker is exposed to a variety of physical conditions such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current and high places. This position is exposed to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases. Requires extensive walking, carrying, dragging, holding, pulling, pushing, lifting, kneeling, bending, twisting body, walking, reaching, and squatting; may be required to lift 70 pounds or more. Employee must be flexible in the schedule to work nights and weekends and must have reliable transportation to the main office.
