Job Description
To provide advanced engineering support to the University’s network environmentensuring reliable, secure, and robust network communication systems. Support includesplanning, designing, and implementing network automation and orchestration solutionsto assure the streamlined operation of wired, cloud, and wireless network communicationsystems (routing, switching and data center technologies).

Basic knowledge of data communication concepts, topologies, protocols, routing and switching technologies.
Considerable knowledge of multi-vendor cloud technologies.
Effective communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to interact with vendors and co-workers.
Demonstrated ability toefficiently manage time.
Demonstrated ability to work with new leading edge technology with minimal assistance and prior knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to workindependently with minimal supervision and to provide technical and project leadership to other staff members.
In most cases these knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Cisco Certified Network Associate ( CCNA ) certifications or equivalent knowledge.
Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Some experience with network automation platforms such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible.
Familiarity with Public Cloud Networking concepts and configuration.
Conditions of Employment
This position is based in Norfolk, VA with a one day a week on campus requirment. This position is on-call, so it will require the ability to get to campus as needed.
Computer equipment will be supplied; high speed internet is the responsibility of the employee.
The equipment provided to staff with approved telework agreements enables them to deliver vital services to University faculty, staff, and students from remote locations. Many of our operations can and should continue as usual, even when the main physical campus is closed. Therefore, all Division of Transformation & Technology employees with an approved telework agreement are generally expected to work during official University closures.

The employee in this position is considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings.
