    Description of Job

    The Work Unit

     

    The Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention (HPCDP) Branchin Prevention Services Division (PSD), reviews, plans, designs, implements and evaluates public health chronic disease interventions and related risk factors with the goal of advancing health and improving health-related quality of life for all Coloradans. Special emphasis is placed on evidence-based practices, data-based and evidence-informed decision making, capacity-building, partnerships, and integration between program efforts for efficiency and effectiveness. The Tobacco Program is part of the HPCDP Branch.

     

    We are aware that many chronic diseases share the same systemic causes: tobacco use, lack of access to nutritious foods, built environments to support physical activity, social connectedness, and poverty and economic instability.

     

    The purpose of the Tobacco Program is to reduce tobacco use and tobacco’s adverse health effects in Colorado through funding, promotion, and support of primary prevention, education, and cessation efforts. The Tobacco Program implements C.R.S. Title 25, Article 3.5 Part 8 Tobacco Education, Prevention and Cessation Programs. This position works collaboratively with other tobacco content experts and leadership in the Tobacco Program to identify strategies that improve overall outcomes for all Coloradans. The Tobacco Program is seeking professionals with lived experiences and/or local experience partnering with diverse populations who are impacted by tobacco use to lead this work.

     

    The FDA Tobacco Retailer Inspection program is located within the Tobacco team and ensures compliance with and implementation of FDA tobacco enforcement as part of the 2009 Federal Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act through the application of best practices to improve the health and quality of life of Coloradans.

     

    The Tobacco Program implements C.R.S. Title 25, Article 3.5 Part 8 Tobacco Education, Prevention and Cessation Programs. This position works with other tobacco content experts and leadership in the Tobacco Program.

    The Position

    This position works collaboratively with entire tobacco team supporting daily operations of the team to align with statewide implementation of Tobacco Control priorities. The position is responsible for developing and adapting policies, procedures and records as well as continuous quality improvements activities. The position completes procurement and contracting liaison tasks, maintains contract administration and monitoring activities, provides programmatic support to various operation level functions and the tobacco review committee for planning and technological support as well as other programmatic stakeholder meetings, workshops and conferences. This position exercises independent judgment in providing Customer Service support to the Tobacco program by streamlining, troubleshooting, investigating, researching and resolving customer inquiries, problems, and program guidelines.

    Conditions of Employment:

    + Pursuant to CDPHE policy, a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE.

    + Must be willing to travel 10% of the time as the position requires. Some travel will be to meetings and conferences to support program’s activities with meetings and conferences, attending trainings and professional development opportunities mostly around the Denver Metro area but could include out of state.

    + If using transcripts to earn credit towards minimum qualifications for education, you must attach transcripts to be considered.

    + Employment is contingent upon the ability to successfully complete a Level 5 Public Records Federal Background Investigation, including criminal, credit, and driving record checks as required by the Food and Drug Administration.
