Summary Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Recreation, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); NBK Bangor and Bremerton. Responsibilities Actively promotes and markets the conference/catering program to ensure maximum participation in the program. Coordinates with a marketing representative to actively market the program. Researches markets and upcoming events to identify opportunities for conferences and catering. Responsible for meeting budgeted conference/catering revenue. Solicits new business through a variety of ways such as cold calls, in person visits, advertising, and use of internet. Meets with prospective clients to tour conference/catering venues, help determine clients' requirements and offers options that are specifically tailored to the clients' needs. Establishes potential booking dates, number of guests, purpose/special occasion, decorations, menu, entertainment, etc., and explains services available. Makes recommendations, determines function costs, prepares contracts, signs and obtains clients signatures and deposits, as required. Effectively and efficiently communicates and coordinates with other departments and the conference/catering team as needed for lodging, event and conference/catering needs. Works with the Installation Program Manager (IPM) and conference/catering staff to ensure successful execution of all events. Follows-up with client for evaluation of services rendered and future booking opportunities. Resolves complaints from patrons and solicits feedback to improve quality of services provided. Responsible for ensuring a clean facility. Ensures building meets fire safety, security, and sanitation standards. Ensures that all equipment is properly functioning. Recommends facility renovations and improvements. Plans, organizes, and manages internal resources to ensure maximum productivity and customer service. Ensures efficient operations to include staffing, programming, sales, cost controls and equipment and facilities maintenance and repair. Acts as the onsite event manager and supervises conference/catering personnel. Responsible for supervision, training and scheduling of employees including operations assistant, server, setup, and bartender. Works in concert with the Chef for scullery and culinary team performance and oversight. Makes recommendations for personnel actions including hiring, termination, promotions, discipline and awards. Resolves complaints and grievances, effectively supports the Navy's Equal Employment Opportunity policy, and promotes a hostile free work environment May assist with establishing catering prices and menu offerings and has input into annual catering and conference budget projections and strategic business plan. Utilizes specialized catering software to enter and monitor catering sales, purchases, and other information related to conference/catering events. May use other automated systems for property management, correspondence, accounting and budgeting, and timekeeping. Responsible for achieving budgeted profitability for conference/catering events. Must evaluate the effectiveness of contracted services and functions. Assists with budgets, inventories, cost controls, checkbook and related records and reports. Executes budget to plan, reporting problems and recommending changes to the IPM. Maintains and enforces security for funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud waste and abuse. May be called upon to assist with the Inside Out Café and Khaki Lounge daily operations. May be required to use a cash register and automated point of sale system May be called upon to perform duties of subordinate positions. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must have a valid driver's license for travel between work sites and to operate a government vehicle. Must be able to complete and pass a formal security background check. Requires lifting and carrying supplies and equipment up to 45 lbs. The work is primarily dynamic and non-sedentary, requiring frequent walking and traveling between work sites. Qualifications Incumbent must have a minimum of three years' experience demonstrating progressively more responsible work involving application of a broad range of management principles, concepts and methodology to catering operations and sales. Experience in planning, budgeting, scheduling and coordinating of events and recreational programs required to include efficient utilization of assigned facilities and equipment. Knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) and Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) policies, regulations, practices and procedures preferred. Experience must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patrons, vendors, outside organizations and varying levels of authority. Must have strong discretionary judgment to analyze size and mix of the patron community; cost targets; utilization studies; and recreational trends as basis for effective recreational programming. Education There is no educational requirement for this position. Additional Information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements.
