Honeywell is implementing advanced gas turbine system technologies in our aircraft propulsion engines and their nacelles and in our auxiliary power units and their installations. Dramatic improvements to the fidelity and speed of simulations used in the design processes of these products are essential to shorten development cycles while meeting customer requirements.

     

    You will be tasked with improving and utilizing icing analysis methods in support of product design efforts. This includes the development of custom software tools and refinement of methods used with commercial off the shelf (COTS) tools. You will be expected to identify and advocate for improvements to existing COTS tools with our vendors, and to continuously monitor the industry for new and better tools and evaluate those tools for potential use.

     

    In addition to icing methods development work, you will help design products to meet customer needs while ensuring product quality and manufacturability at the lowest possible cost and weight. You will design and analyze icing related aspects of our product components. You will also direct the design, assembly and execution of icing tests for prototype and early production hardware and may serve as a project manager for smaller development projects.

     

    Some products you’ll support include export-controlled technology and therefore may only be supported by US Persons (citizens and permanent residents). Frequent interaction with internal and external customers will require proficient English writing, speaking and presenting skills. Your work will be integral to satisfying current customers and securing future business by consistently meeting or exceeding Voice of Customer requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Maintaining and improving icing analysis and test tools

    + Performing icing analyses of gas turbine engine and installation components

    + Designing icing mitigation features within products

    + Performing icing testing

    + Validating icing simulation results using icing and wind tunnel test data and refining modeling

    + Performing aerodynamic analyses

    + Creating and delivering technical presentations and reports

    + Supporting the certification of products

    YOU MUST HAVE

    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics

    + Strong fundamental educational background in aerodynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

    + 2 year of experience with CFD codes, preferably commercial packages such as Star CCM+, Fluent, CFX, FENSAP.

    + 5 years’ experience in icing engineering analysis and design, can include graduate studies

    + US Citizen or lawful permanent resident due to export control restrictions

    WE VALUE

    + Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in engineering

    + Understanding of aircraft and engine icing regulations and certification test procedures.

    + Icing test experience including an understanding of the capabilities of icing test facilities available for industry use and the proper scoping of test matrices to meet certification requirements

    + Proficiency with programming and scripting languages such as MATLAB and Python.

    + Familiarity with product design software such as NX, Creo, Catia

    + Demonstrated mastery of MS Office software

    + Demonstrated hardware development program experience and success

    + Self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision, consistently taking the initiative to get things done, doing things before being asked by others or being forced to by events

    + Good knowledge of the aerospace industry and products

    + Ability to convey subtle or complex messages clearly both in writing and verbally, as appropriate for the topic and audience

    + Willingness to put in the effort required to get the job done
