Under the supervision of a laboratory technologist and/or technician, the Laboratory/Pathology Assistant provides technical and clerical support in both the Laboratory and Pathology departments. This role assists with specimen processing, preparation, and quality control to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Assist in the collection, labeling, accessioning, and preparation of patient specimens for analysis.

+ Support both Laboratory and Pathology departments by performing specimen set-ups, processing, and quality control procedures.

+ Prepare and handle tissue specimens, assist with grossing activities, and maintain proper documentation for pathology workflows.

+ Record and monitor temperatures of laboratory equipment such as refrigerators and incubators to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards.

+ Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, ensuring proper disposal of biohazard materials.

+ Follow established laboratory safety protocols, infection control procedures, and departmental policies.

+ Provide general assistance to Laboratory/Pathology technologists and technicians as required.

Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent required.

+ Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, specimen handling, and safety procedures preferred.

+ Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.

+ Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
