Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsiblities
Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Senior Technologist to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Senior Technologist to collaborate in the design, assembling, testing, maintaining, and operating of control systems used on high stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
Key Responsibilities
+ Maintaining Vacuum systems for the Cygnus Pulse Power machine.
+ Rebuilding diodes for operations.
+ Performing checklists for machine setup and operations.
+ Works under general supervision with limited technical direction.
+ Assists in researching, compiling and analyzing measurement data.
+ Performs work of moderate complexity independently and makes recommendations on issues and problem solutions.
+ May serve as lead technical support person on teams with well-defined scope of work.
+ Frequently coordinates work with peers and regularly with senior S/E personnel and supervisor.
+ Engages with peers, colleagues, and vendors to complete task planning and facilitate execution.
+ Mentors junior staff in selected area(s) of specialty.
+ Responsible for operating diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, delay generators, spectrum analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.
+ Has a basic understanding of vacuum systems.
+ Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
+ Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 7 years’ progressive related experience.
+ Hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
+ Experience in engaging with customers, program sponsors, external project partners and vendors to coordinate work planning and execution details.
+ Preferred Skills:
+ Installation and configuration of industrial network hardware.
+ Knowledge of instrumentation & control, electrical, mechanical or electromechanical components.
+ Some experience in using measurement equipment.
+ Experience with basic electronic work.
+ Pulse Power experience is a plus.
+ Some knowledge of vacuum systems.
+ Some experience working with oscilloscope, function generators and delay generators.
+ Experience using standard office software products.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and technical documents.
+ Self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
+ Has strong time-management skills, is well organized, able to maintain safe work habits, and have a broad range of technical interests and education.
+ Demonstrated desire to learn and innovate.
+ Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, procedures and company policies.
+ Must be able to collaborate well in a multi-institutional environment with all levels of staff and management.
+ Must be able to work in an underground facility.
+ The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
+ Work hours for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
+ Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
+ Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. **Department of Energy Q Clearance** (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707\_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is: $70,262.40 - $105,393.60.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
