    Job Description

    Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).     Responsiblities

     

    MSTS is seeking an experienced Technical Writer and Editor to support Engineers, Scientists, and Management with the writing and editing of technical documents associated with diagnostic equipment used in subcritical experiments (SCEs) conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) facility. This position is based in North Las Vegas, Nevada but may require occasional travel over the next year or two to Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories to coordinate the development and implementation of installation procedures, as well as coordinate the transfer of documentation to the NNSS.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Researches and collects classified and unclassified background information and technical data needed to write technical reports; analyzes the information for relevancy and rewrites the information in a clear, concise manner to meet authoritative organizational requirements for producing an unclassified report.

    + Develop an understanding of the MSTS document control system and associated processes for managing documentation.

    + Utilize existing company processes to develop and maintain a compliant ECSE document control system with proper configuration management.

    + Collaborate with Nuclear Weapons Laboratory personnel on the development of highly technical installation instructions for the Scorpius accelerator and other complex diagnostic equipment as required.

    + Coordinate with the MSTS Work Control Organization to develop a streamlined process for the incorporation of Nuclear Weapons Laboratory procedures into acceptable MSTS work control documents.

    + Collaborate with the Asset Manager and Systems Engineer to transfer project documentation from the Nuclear Weapons Laboratories into applicable MSTS systems to ensure long-term retrieval of information.

    + Interface, on a routine basis, with Engineers and Scientists to produce clear and concise technical documents and operational checklists.

    + Develop a compliant checklist process that meets a Nuclear Facility level of rigor.

    + Utilize the company Technical Writing procedures and Writers Guides to produce compliant Standard Operating Procedures and Off-Normal Procedures.

    + Collaborate with personnel on technical procurements to produce clear and effective Statement of Works for complex fabrications or service agreements

    + Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least 5 years’ of professional level experience or equivalent training and experience.

    + Highly skilled in computer software applications such as MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.

    + In-depth knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, composition, and style.

    + Candidate must have good written and oral communications skills and be comfortable communicating with all levels of MSTS personnel, as well as with our National Laboratory partners or NNSA oversight.

    + Must be able to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, multiple tasks, and changing priorities.

    + Able to communicate with highly technical personnel in a tactful, professional, and effective manner.

    + Ability to learn and adapt to terminology in a highly scientific and engineering-based environment, driven by a high degree of acronym use.

    + Ability to understand technical terminology related to nuclear facilities and experimental operations and the ability to interpret information from subject matter experts in order to write technical documents.

    + Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other miscellaneous details.

    + Able to follow oral and written instruction to complete all assignments, on-time, with minimal supervision.

    + Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.

    + The primary work location will be Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Occasional trips to the PULSE facility located in the forward areas of the NNSS may be required.

    + Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).

    + Limited travel is required.

    + Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

    + Must possess a valid driver’s license.

     

    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

     

    **Department of Energy Q Clearance** (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707\_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required.     Annual salary range for this position is: $78,832.00 - $118,248.00.

     

    Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
