    Job Summary: Reporting to the biomedical engineering manager and biomedical engineering team lead functions as a working lead for a team of biomedical engineers. The team lead is expected to make appropriate work assignments, provide support, and expertise to ensure the completion of the assigned team's responsibilities/work assignments. In addition to the team lead responsibilities, the biomedical engineering team lead will repair, calibrate, maintain medical equipment, and instrumentation used in the healthcare field. Responds to service calls to perform repair/preventative maintenance on biomedical equipment, while ensuring a safe operation and effective performance of medical equipment by conducting approved programs for quality control/assurance. Maintain operational knowledge of medical devices, measuring devices, knowledge of manufacturer's repair manuals, troubleshooting techniques, and preventive-maintenance schedules. Documents repair action and submit reports/paperwork in a timely manner. Ensure proper care of tools, other related/assigned equipment, and shares on-call responsibilities. Demonstrates/explains correct operation of equipment to medical personnel; and provides guidance or instruction on the correct operation and maintenance of medical equipment.

     

    Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred in one of the following fields - Biomedical Equipment Service Technology, Electronic Service Technology, or Computer Service Technology from an accredited program or equivalent experience in military Biomedical Equipment Testing.

     

    Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

     

    Work Experience: 5-7 years of related experience.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge of biomedical equipment preventative and corrective maintenance standards. Skilled in the use of testing instruments, devices, simulators and tools associated with servicing electronic equipment. Strong problem solving skills with proven ability to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve equipment repairs. Good leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain good Working Relationships with individuals at all levels. Good planning and organization skills, able to balance priorities among multiple assigned tasks and duties. Good verbal and written skills required. Customer service focused with attention to detail; results oriented Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Able to follow department policies, procedures, managerial guidance and good judgment in decision making process.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Lead, instruct and assist biomedical engineers on basic and complex repairs/resolution. Make work assignments to ensure corrective actions or preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner. Follows up with team members to ensure proper documentation is completed. Analyzes and corrects malfunctions on a variety of medical equipment systems including performing emergency service for staff, troubleshooting equipment, equipment setups, and operational procedures during surgical cases and/or while running floors. Works with clinical personnel to correct operator based problems. Directly performs, or schedules with outside service vendors, the performance assessment and preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures: inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates and repairs or replaces components; documents work performed including that provided by outside service. Performs inspection and certification of the performance of new equipment / systems, coordinates assembly / installation. Prepares and recommends maintenance and test specifications for each electrical and electronic device and defines inspection and calibration cycles. Performs electrical safety inspections and performance assurance testing. Completes documentation for entry into the computerized maintenance management system. Advises on specifications for purchases of new equipment and recommends replacement of obsolete or irreparable equipment. Provides new product evaluation as requested. Maintains equipment history with written and computer documentation, including all parts and labor and contract services, providing reports as requested. Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding the safe and effective use of medical equipment.

     

    Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.

     

    Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Has input on performance evaluations but does not prepare of give. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
