UPMC is hiring a Senior Director, Clinical Engagement and Leadership Development
UPMC is seeking an inspiring and accomplished nursing leader for the role of Senior Director, Clinical Engagement and Leadership Development. Reporting to the Chief Nurse Executive, this strategic position shapes the future of nursing through visionary leadership, effective engagement strategies, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. The Senior Director will drive transformational change across the UPMC system by fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and professional growth. This position will need to be on site with travel to various hospitals.
The Senior Director, Clinical Engagement and Leadership Development advances nursing strategy at UPMC by championing leadership development, promoting employee wellbeing, strengthening nursing communications, and leading violence prevention efforts. This role empowers nurses at every level, ensuring a safe, supportive, and high-performing work environment while guiding the system nursing councils to align with organizational priorities.
Key Responsibilities
+ Design and implement nursing engagement strategies to elevate clinical practice and workforce satisfaction.
+ Lead and facilitate system nursing councils, driving alignment with UPMC's strategic goals and fostering shared governance.
+ Develop and oversee comprehensive leadership development programs including mentorship, coaching, and succession planning for nursing leaders.
+ Direct nursing communications to ensure timely, transparent, and effective information sharing across all levels of the organization.
+ Advocate for nursing interests at the executive level, promoting initiatives that support professional development and optimal patient outcomes.
+ Collaborate with interprofessional teams to strengthen nurse engagement and enhance clinical excellence.
Wellbeing and Safety Initiatives
+ Champion wellbeing programs that support nurses' physical, emotional, and psychological health.
+ Develop and lead workplace violence prevention strategies, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all staff.
+ Promote psychological safety through ongoing education, advocacy, and policy development.
Leadership Development
+ Mentor emerging nurse leaders, providing coaching and guidance for career advancement.
+ Establish and evaluate professional growth programs tailored to diverse nursing roles and career stages.
+ Facilitate opportunities for continuing education and specialty certification.
+ BSN required. Master's degree in nursing or related field required. PhD or DNP preferred. Certified preferred.
+ Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in nursing and clinical operations.
+ Proven track record in employee engagement, leadership development, and wellbeing programming. Strong interpersonal, communication, and strategic planning skills.
+ Prior Magnet and/or Pathways leadership experience preferred Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 34
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
