UPMC Corporate Legal is hiring a Senior Associate Counsel, Litigation and Investigations to join our team at the US Steel Tower! The role will work Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The position will have flexibility to work one day each week from home.
The Senior Associate Counsel will provide effective legal counsel in litigation and government investigations to assist in meeting the legal needs of a large, diverse health care financing and delivery system.

Responsibilities:
+ Direct and manage representation of UPMC business units in complex and significant legal proceedings before arbitrators, administrative agencies, magistrates, state and federal courts and/or in regulatory and legal investigative proceedings. This will include setting case strategy and tactics, handling some cases as lead in-house counsel and other cases on an in-house team. This litigation role focuses generally on complex civil matters, including antitrust, alleged class actions, False Claims Act, contract, construction, real estate, affirmative, and particularly complex employment matters. The matters will typically not include medical malpractice, general liability (e.g., slip/fall), and most employment matters.
+ Report to the Division Chief Legal Officer & VP, Employment, Labor, Litigation & External Affairs.
+ Participate in selecting outside counsel. Work with and oversee outside counsel.
+ Serve as the interface between employees and outside counsel.
+ Assist in selecting expert witnesses.
+ Provide input into and oversight over budget submissions and tracking relating to litigation and government investigations.
+ Address and resolve legal issues as they arise on a daily basis.
+ Evaluate legal research and perform legal analysis.
+ Apply legal knowledge, analysis and judgment to identify avenues of alternative dispute resolution.
+ Oversee and ensure thoughtful preservation and discovery, including electronically stored information.
+ Report regularly to senior management on the status of all significant litigation.
+ Review and recommend changes to corporate policy to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
+ J.D. Degree required.
+ Minimum twelve years of experience as a practicing attorney, including significant experience and expertise with litigation in both state and federal courts, particularly in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
+ Must demonstrate strong legal analytical skills, communication skills, solid legal writing skills, and problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
+ Must demonstrate ability to independently handle unique, sensitive and complex legal matters, without supervision and oversight
+ Experience with civil and criminal government investigations, such as by the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, or Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, preferred.
+ Healthcare experience preferred.
+ Experience managing outside counsel in litigation preferred.
+ Attainment of highly developed and highly specialized legal knowledge experience and skills.
+ Admission to the bar; eligibility for admission to the Pennsylvania bar required.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
