    ### Job Duties

    The Carman/Railcar Repair Mechanic I plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of railcars used in transportation. This position involves performing inspections, repairs, and maintenance on various types of railcars to meet industry standards and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues and implementing effective solutions to enhance the performance of railcars. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with other team members to ensure timely completion of repairs and adherence to safety protocols. Ultimately, the Carman/Railcar Repair Mechanic I contributes to the overall efficiency of rail operations, ensuring that railcars are in optimal condition for service.

     

    Conduct thorough inspections of railcars to identify mechanical and structural issues.

     

    Perform repairs and maintenance on railcars, including welding, cutting, and replacing components.

     

    Document all repairs and maintenance activities accurately in compliance with company policies.

     

    Collaborate with team members to prioritize repair tasks and ensure timely completion.

     

    Adhere to safety regulations and best practices while working in a shop environment.

     

    ### Minimum Education Required

    High school diploma or equivalent.

     

    ### Minimum Experience Required

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Basic mechanical knowledge and experience in repair work.

     

    Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.

     

    Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

     

    Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous experience in railcar repair or a related field.

     

    Certification in welding or mechanical repair.

     

    Familiarity with safety regulations specific to the rail industry.

     

    Experience using diagnostic tools and equipment.

     

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
