Position Highlights:
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Manager is an advocate for the nursing professional development team and manages the activities and personnel in the NPD department to provide the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/ evidence-based practice/ quality/performance improvement, onboarding/orientation, and competency management. The NPD Manager functions as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions as they guide the department towards desired outcomes. The NPD Manager is responsible for, as a result, quality and safety are enhanced, and patient outcomes are improved.

The principal duties and job responsibilities are based on the Standards of the Association of Nursing Professional Development including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination, health promotion and evaluation. Additional standards integrated into the managers assessment and interventions include ethics, advocacy, respectful and equitable practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, scholarly inquiry, quality and practice, professional practice evaluation, resource stewardship, and environmental health.
Leadership and Human Resources - Monitors performance of the staff and takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Uses independent judgment to: Selects applicant for interview and hire and assures appropriate orientation. Suspend or invoke other discipline for work infractions, performance deficiencies and conduct violations by exercising supervisory authority. Evaluates supervised employees, recommends promotion of supervised employees, and recommends bonuses and awarding of other discretionary rewards to supervised employees. In collaboration with the Human Resources Department, terminates supervised employees, where appropriate. Actively involves all groups in shared decision-making where appropriate. Uses skill in effective conflict management and is able to reach a common goal and resolve conflicts Creates a work environment that addresses the physical and emotional needs of the staff and one that is conducive to retention of the staff.
Financial Management Understands health care economics, public policy, and finance as it pertains to the delivery of patient care. Develops, analyzes, and interprets department-based budgeting. Maintains staffing and scheduling, and resource utilization within budgeted targets for the department. Utilizes information systems to support business decisions.
Performance Improvement Demonstrates familiarity with the performance improvement model of the organization. Champions performance improvement activities within the NPD department through problem identification, assessment, data gathering, change implementation, and evaluation of outcomes. Supports continual process improvement by sponsoring and/or participating in performance activities and initiatives. Sets quality standards and initiatives for the NPD department through collaboration with leadership and implementation of evidence-based practice where appropriate. Coordinates with nursing leadership to provide support and education as requested to facilitate learning and/or process changes for identified clinical units performance improvement projects.
Critical Thinking/Technology Utilizes critical thinking skills in the performance of their duties. Demonstrates and understanding of technology utilized in the organization. Utilizes data driven decision making, incorporating evidence into the decision process. Employs strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills and utilizes defined models for problem solving. Considers the system as a whole when analyzing data and making decisions. Appropriately integrates technology into the day-to-day activities of NPD department and leverages technology to improve learner outcomes
Leadership and Clinical Practice Knowledge Provides leadership for the effective and efficient operation of assigned unit. Assures clinical practice is of the highest quality. Leads the employees in a manner that develops the employee to their optimal level of performance. Establishes and maintains a communication plan that disseminates key messages and decisions Deliver culturally competent nursing professional development activities. Utilizes evidence-based practice as a foundation for NPD activities and planning. Fosters shared decision making based on evidence-based practice. Maintains a customer-oriented leadership style. Holds self and staff accountable for NPD department activities and the impact on clinical outcomes.
Communication and Relationship Building Utilizes relationship in influencing behaviors on the unit Utilizes active listening, feedback, inquiry, and validation in communicating with others in relation to meeting the goals of the NPD department. Understands the functions of a group process. Is able to facilitate effective groups and collaboration with other disciplines. Supports academic relationships through welcoming students to the campus and assisting in their training process. Promotes, nurtures, and maintains interdisciplinary relationships to promote evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes
Professionalism Demonstrates a professional persona in their work Acts as a role model for professional behavior and professional appearance. Maintains the confidentiality of employee information. Encourages involvement of at least one professional nursing organization Follow department procedures and assumes the responsibility of informing the appropriate authority of noted incompetence or unethical behavior. Accepts responsibility for knowing current changes in policy, protocols, and procedures through the hospital communication systems. Supports quality standards, goals and initiatives set by the department and applicable professional organizations.
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed** **:
**Minimum qualifications** :
+ Bachelor's of Nursing Required
+ 2 years in a Nursing Professional Development role or previous clinical leadership experience Required
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Power Point, Teams, and Excel.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills.
+ Knowledge of the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) skills and standards for Nursing Professional Development.
+ Leadership ability and working knowledge of leadership principles and management skills.
+ Knowledge of regulatory standards (CMS, DNV, TJC, OSHA) for professional specialty served.
+ RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Required
Preferred qualifications:
Master's of Nursing or related field Preferred
Experience in acute care hospital setting Preferred
Nursing Professional Develp Cert (NPD--BC) ANCC Cert Preferred
Clinical or Leadership certification Preferred
Advanced Life Support Provided Certification, per specialty Preferred
